Unbelievable GOTOs!

Posted By Joe Lalumia

Unbelievable! This was the first real opportunity to use my new(old) LX90 LNT 8" ..........I AM IMPRESSED! I did a Calibrate sensors then a 2 star alignment......the scope tracked perfectly and GOTOs were ALL inside my 30mm eyepiece! I did GOTOs literally ALL OVER the sky.....and the LX90 put all of them inside the eyepiece! I saw more objects in two hours (in these urban skies) then I ever saw in two weeks of manual searching! Look MA no hands .........it moves all by itself! HA. smile

Out in the DRIVEWAY!

Posted By Joe Lalumia

Well I setup my new(old) LX90 LNT in the driveway last night. Now I am a corner house with traffic going by......and one of those BAD streetlights on the corner, that I can mostly block out with the house.

Gotos are still very accurate and continue to surprise me. Observed about 10 different objects including the Double Cluster and Saturn, but those faint DSOs were mostly beyond my grasp. I got a "hint" of several (I think) with averted vision. Mostly stuck with objects brighter than about 7 magnitude. All in all a pretty good evening for my light polluted skies. Saturn of course was excellent.

Nice Scope Case- Northern Tools

Posted By Joe Lalumia

I found an excellent rolling hard plastic case for my 8" LX90 at Northern Tools.

$69.00 and the original Meade packing foam fits inside with about 6 inches (length) left over for other items. Foam fits perfect side to side. The case has a handle and wheels, and is lockable!

Wireless Remote Telescope Control

Posted By Joe Lalumia

I am in the beginning steps of trying to remotely control an LX90 using an attached laptop ..........and using my home wifi network .........to the desktop computer inside in my office.

Would you folks give me some practical setup tips once I have a Virtual Private Network working on my home wifi network. Assume the Desktop can "see" the laptop on the wifi network and that I can already control the laptop software.................the question is what are the next steps to control my LX90 (in sequence please). Thanks in advance for your help and advice. I already know that I need a USB to Serial adapter, and I already own a 505 Meade cable, and the appropriate telescope control software. Thank you.

I went an DONE IT!

Posted By Joe Lalumia

Ok, I broke down and have some guide scope rings coming from Scopestuff.com.....and 2 more lbs of weights.

I intend to mount my 80mm Celestron widefield on the LX90 8", to use at public observing events, and to try out a little "image guiding". Here is my problem....... I mounted my Telrad dead center in the top of the scope......now I need to remove it and mount the guide scope rail and rings.....how do I get the Telrad off without breaking it....and or ruining the paint on the LX90??? Advice please.

Why is it SO HARD!

Posted By Joe Lalumia

I am new to imaging, and I even think of myself as an advanced computer user=============BUT======== whoever wrote the current crop of imaging software must have been in concert with the DEVIL! smile

One day someone OTHER THAN Adobe will release an easier to use astronomical image processing software! Probably will be a Chinese company, and then all the American programmers will be complaining about outsourcing! ! smile

My pictures on the laptop are twice as good as the "after" processing picture! wink :C :S 8O

Yes they look impressive! Mine is the original BLUE paint.......the tripod and wedge are EXTREMELY heavy (I think they called it the GOLD model tripod....has motor drive and a small controller).
