6" homebuilt refractor

Posted By Scott Ayer

Thought I would mention that my friend Matt decided to build a 6" f/15 achromat from the plans in Richard Berry's book. It has a D&G 6" lens and cell/ GSO focuser. Everything else is made from Oak or plywood.
Here's a link to a photo gallery showing construction...

monthly AM Drawing

Posted By Scott Ayer

I thought I remembered seeing that AMART was having a Drawing for Supporters ($30 or above) for APril (41 panoptic).
Anyone know if this is the case?

collimation of TV102

Posted By Scott Ayer

I know you are supposed to send the 102 in to TV for collimation at the factory but has anyone ever done this themselves. I just bought a used TV102 from Astronomics that is supposed to only be 2 or 3 months old- It appears to be way out of collimation- Anyone know what Televue charges for this? Thanks Scott

Posted By Scott Ayer

I just ordered some small items from Scopetronix yesterday. I hadnt heard about them closing up until a friend of mine mentioned it today. They havent charged my card yet. Since they are not replying to emails ... I might be screwed
Has anyone else had any problems with them ?

diagonals is there a differance

Posted By Scott Ayer

Hi Mark,
It depend on whether you are upgrading from a standard diagonal(eg. inexpensive 1.25" plastic diagonals that are included with many scopes(meade, celestron, etc).
I have 4 Inexpensive Meade Diagonals , 1 a few others from other Manufactures that are not collimated very well when checked with a laser. I personally own a couple of Williams optics diagonals(enhanced silver) and I am very happy with them . The Williams optics, Astrotech,or any of the Higher end Meade, Celestron , Orion, etc have a good reputation If you dont want to shell out $$$ for a Televue or AP diagonal.
