My little girls "help!"

Posted By robert rule

I have a TEC 140 and I left it out one night getting ready to observe. My 10 year old daughter noticed a speck of dust on the lens and to help daddy she took a tissue spit on it and "cleaned" the speck off the middle of the lens. She was very proud that the speck disappeared and that she had helped a "stunned" daddy! However, it left a streak mark on the center of the lens. It does not seem to have degraded the image at all but I am concerned that "spit" is not quite like dew and might cause long term effects. Any comments? Should I be concerned, should I get it cleaned or use the AP cleaning stuff to clean the lens? Appreciate your help on this.

sale of beloved traveler

Posted By robert rule

I have to sell my beloved Traveler. I purchased it in 1996 from Company Seven. I still have the original papers. It appears to be in excellent shape although the case is a bit battered. It has the new focuser, I want to give it a good home. However, I have no idea what it is worth and I want to be fair to people. I figure this is the place to get an idea of what I should ask for it. Any help would be most appreciated.

Many thanks,

Intes m703 deluxe to complement Traveler

Posted By robert rule

Dear Guys,

Aren't you glad I started this thread! One question I should have asked is the image using a 703 or a Mewlon 210 that much better than the Traveler I own to make it worthwhile to purchase the 703 or the Mewlon 210?
Many thanks, Bob

Custom mount

Posted By robert rule

I have a 600 mount with the wooden tripod. I built a wooden alt top similar to the one shown in this thread that I insert onto the 600 tripod. It works great with the Traveler and 9.25" Celestron I have and it saves much time for a quick setup. I suggested to AP that they make a similar head for the tripod to increase the utility of the mount. They said they were thinking about it. This was three months ago.
