Identifying Zeiss microscope eyepieces?

Posted By Arthur M. Schneiderman

I hope this isn't too far off topic ... but: is there a source (online or hard copy) for identifying the various Zeiss microscope eyepieces? I know they usually have a six digit identifier, but is there any logic to those numbers?

For example, I have a Zeiss West Germany model 46 40 30 - 9901. It's also labeled "Plan W 10x/25" and has the eyeglass symbol. I assume that the "W" stands for widefield, the "10x/25" means 10x or 25mm focal length, and the eyeglass means that it has sufficient eyerelief to be used with eyeglasses. How can I find out more including its value?

Spare part for T-Mount?

Posted By Arthur M. Schneiderman

Anyone have a spare top plate (the part with the sliding dovetail that locks the scope onto the mount) for a T-Mount that they'd be willing to sell?

T-Mount part?

Posted By Arthur M. Schneiderman

I need to replace the top plate on my T-Mount. It's the one with the sliding dovetail that locks the OTA onto the mount. Anyone have one that they'd be interested in selling me?

Which company ships scopes safely?

Posted By Arthur M. Schneiderman

You guys owe me bigtime!! I lost a lot of sleep over your horror stories since this post started. That was the same day my new second-eye AP 155 EFDS started its cross-country journey via FedEx. As I tracked its progress, I thought I could hear shattering glass at each of its many stops. It was due here tomorrow and all I could think of was how to can I explain to my wife why I had paid so much for a box full of broken glass and bent metal.

When the phone rang at 8am this morning, and the caller identified himself as FedEx, I was sure that they were calling to tell me that they didn't even have any body-parts for me to bury. Instead, he asked if it was ok to deliver it a day early? My regular driver, Phil was concerned that if I wasn't home and he left it outside, it might get wet.

Well it just arrived and it is pristeen!!

Maybe it was because of the large declared value, or the fact that it was sent Express Saver, but FedEx gets an A+ on this one. And you guys? Well, as I said ...

mounting the APQ 130

Posted By Arthur M. Schneiderman

Interestingly, my APQ 100/640 has just the opposite problem: it's tailheavy since it has the same backend hardware and a smaller objective with with a lower lever arm. Fortunately, my AP 400GTO seems to be able to handle the inbalance with no problem.

I've thought about having a new longer dovetail plate made at a local shop with a female Zeiss/AP on one side and a male Losmandy on the other. This would solve both of our inbalance problems. Of course it would be easy to make one up out of AP parts that would do the same thing if you were willing to take the additional weight.
