Michael, what i did is go to the steal supply yard and have them cut me off a piece of 6" round stock, my need was for about 23 lbs. so 2 and 3/4 inch piece was perfect, had them drill a 1&1/2 inch hole in the center, (shaft size) then cross drilled and taped a 1/2" by 13 thread hole went to the hardware store and got a set screw 2" long, cleaned it up and painted it done deal looks great weighs 22.75 pounds and balances 6f12 perfectly cost about $50.00. john

John, funny you should ask i am currently researching this very subject, read a few books and spent a lot of time searching the net,try burnettweb.com/ite/t2-intro.htm, then, atmsite.org/contrib/Ceragioli/refractor/, then mabe canon.com/technology/production/flourite_lens/content.html, just a little info there on florite lenses there,mabe optics-online.com/OOL/Material.asp,also sitek.se/section8.htm,one more for ya hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/geoopt/lenscon.html, you got to do a little work on this last one to find all the info in it, google has a lot of sites on it if you filter through it. mabe some help. john

well i chose the long focus refractor, 6", and it smokes the 8 inch reflectors, i didn't like giving up the sweet spot, you know the center, and the long focus gives great deep sky. john

well that depends on the size of your scope, berry at d&g recomends 1.5 inch shafts for a 6 inch scope, a g11 would probably work great for a 4inch since it has 1.25inch shafts but they are spendy, i just picked up a c102 on a cg4 for a freind of mine, woundup taking the mount all apart to see if i could improve the fit, certainly inadequate, poor design, but keeping within their budget i managed to get rid of some of the slop, the older ds 10 mount would have a better choice in this case, the polaris would probably work great on an 80 or maybe 90 mm long tube but it all realy depends on what you want. john

from the moment of its conseption oxidation is taking place, and of course the salts in the air will speed up this process, just look at the metal objects in your invironment no look closely, corosion is there, the coating on a mirror is metal and vulnnerable. that is one of the resons i sold my 8" reflector and got a 6" long focus refractor. not to mention i have to go 40 minutes up the hill to get above the fog. john

i love my u.o.32 konig 1.25 format, fairly wide field of view great eye relief barlows very well, all around good performer at a very resonable price. john
