Re: Mount for G-9.25 Thanks to All !!

Posted By randy cordell

Just a quick $.02. The CI-700 is a G-11 that was modified by Celestron (or others and subsequently called a CI-700)and from what I have heard it isn't as good a choice as the straight G11. I think they gears have 1/2 the number of teeth for one thing. Also, I like the Universal Dovetail plate for the G11 (with "Ken's" rings) over the G9.25 specific dovetail because you can reuse it for just about anything.

G9.25 2" diagonal questions

Posted By randy cordell

Hi,

I have a G9.25 that I got about a month ago. I only have two eyepieces because I have been trying to decide if I needed to go to a 2" diagonal. I get the impression that on an SCT under 10" I will not gain much by going to the 2" diagonal. I do understand the difference when going from my Celstron 1.25" aluminum mirror to any dielectric. That isn't the question. Wouldn't a 1.25" dieletric diagonal give the same light to the eyepiece as a 2"? Comments?

If I do buy a 2" diagonal what are the tried and true solutions out there for SCT's? Do I go with screw on SCT style or get an adapter for a refractor style diagonal? I'm EQ, not fork, mounted so length isn't part of my equation. Comments?

Feedback on Siebert Optical eyepieces?

Posted By randy cordell

Anybody have feedback on the Siebert Optical line of eyepieces? I would like general feedback but specific feedback on this model would be great: EP125-35 1.25", 35mm, 50 deg. FOV, eye relief 24mm, $69.00

Feedback on UO Konig II Wide-Angle Oculars?

Posted By randy cordell

Any and all glowing endorsements or flaming critiques welcome. I am trying to find a trade off of price and performance. These look to be a pretty good choice. Comments?

It looks like I can get 4 of these Konig II's 12, 16, 24, 32mm in 1.25" format for the price of one Nagler T4. The reviews of various eyepieces on cloudynights.com show frequent references to the less than perfect performance of the TV lines. I can live with a slight comprimise in AFOV for a SIGNIFICANT reduction in price.

You also can download a pdf document from www.losmandy.com that covers general usage. Kind of a nice thing to have when you are just starting out with one.

Safety testing a new off axis solar filter

Posted By randy cordell

I have a piece of Thousand Oaks II solar filter glass coming which I intend to use to build and off axis filter for my C9.25" SCT. How can I test this to be sure it is safe to look through when it is done?

SCT Fork vs. EQ mounts

Posted By randy cordell

I have a C9.25" mounted on a Losmandy GM-8. This is an EQ setup. While I love the tracking that I never had with my Dob, I HATE EQ mounts because they are just so darn Un-intuitive. You have to go up or down to move sideways, etc. I am starting to consider finding or maybe trading for a fork mount. Are the forks more like using a Dob? They look like they are more of an Alt-Az type arrangement which is always easier to use in my opinion but regular Alt-Az mounts don't have tracking that I know of. Goto isn't really a requirement but motor tracking and slewing is.

Also, is there a Celestron Fork Mount that would work with my c9.25" OTA? Anybody know?

Comments appreciated.

Re: Conrando or Thousand Oaks

If you are at all handy you can get a piece of Thousand Oaks glass from Telescope Warehouse, an Astromart supporter, up to 7+ inches in circumference for $15. Make your own design for mounting it. Search the web for ideas that others have used.
