Despite your complaints, that is a nice image!

If you find that the image is not better, even in good seeing, maybe the collimation is slightly off?

Just guessing here.....great image anyways!

Anyone Else Having trouble with Mars??

Here in Los Angeles, it was hot for the last two weeks, and I wasn't even able to go past 150X on Mars. Only the last few nights has it finally gotten better - I was able to use 250X-300X last night, which I would consider average seeing. Summer can be tough on seeing, since heat rises all night off rooftops and concrete that soaked up the sun's rays all day.

Mars - Olympus Mons detail...

Thanks! Olympus mons was much harder for me to detect visually than in this image - it looked more like a slightly lighter colored area to my eyes.

The blue cloud NW of Solis Lacus, however, was fairly easy using a light blue filter.

Solis Lacus was scary looking!

I had my clearest views tonight while Solis Lacus was transiting the CM. I could not believe the detail I had at 600x.

You are right, this has been a great opposition so far - I am going to miss Mars observing as it flies away.
