Very nice first shot, Ralph! It looks like it was shot in color! I would suggest taking flats at least, the dust doughnuts are kinda obvious.

Welcome to the club, James! I remember my first light, it's very exciting seeing detail after just a few seconds' worth of exposures. Keep it up, learn the processing, and share your results. It will be nice to see your progress. I'm still progressing myself.

Hi Tyler,

Is the elongation happening in all corners, or just one or two?

From what I understand, if the star elongation is across the entire frame (visible in all four corners), you will need to position the camera/flattener at just the right distance. All flatteners/correctors need to be just the right "metal back distance" from the imager for the correction to work at its best.

If the elongation is happening in just one corner or side, you are probably seeing flexure in your system, i.e., a miniscule "droop" from the weight of the camera. Or, the camera might not be perfectly square to the tube.

Nice picture overall, though!

Gorgeous, Jose! I also thought this was with your new FSQ - I guess that gives me one less reason to get an FSQ if/when I get a STL-11000? wink

So, with the flattener and spacing just right, there is no star elongation at the corners at all? If so, cool!

Good job! What's nice about this is, once you get your filter wheel, you can add the color data to this same luminance data, even months later!

FWIW, we have a very similar optical setup: Tak FS102 and Borg 76ED for me. I'm curious: why did you guide with the external scope instead of the internal guider of the ST2000? Or are you practicing for narrow-band imaging? wink
