Paging Steve, Rick etc.

Boys (and girls):

The Sox need a boost. Your superstitious silence is obviously not working. I predict a 4-1 Indian massacre unless the Sox faithful show up here and start posting some serious smack talk, (or analysis, your choice).

I'm pulling for the Sox because I want the Rockies, win or lose, to face one of the grand old teams of baseball next week. Also, I like you guys and I don't think any Astromarters publicly support the Tribe.

Silence isn't working!!!!!

I'm considering pulling for the Indians, as the team that looks the easiest to beat. Have any of you recently seen a game as poorly fielded as last night's sorry affair?

Three nights difference

Posted By James Brown

Comet Holmes is fascinating because if has changed so quickly. Here are two images taken three days apart with the same technique, equipment and to the best of my ability processing. What a difference three days makes!

15 (1) minute subs for each of LRGB, background stars and comet aligned and processed separately, then re-combined in Photoshop as a final step.

The Changing Face of Holmes

Posted By James Brown

Hi all:

Here is a montage of Comet Holmes taken on November 2, 5, 7 and 12. Each image is a median combination of (15) 1 minute subs per LRGB channel. Taken with a Starlight Xpress SXV-H9, TEC APO 140 and Losmandy G-11 with Gemini.

I think I will re-visit this data later, and try to perform identical stretching on each image. So far these are processed more or less according to the same techniques, but I have not taken great pains to normalize the image levels with each other.

The comet has pretty much outgrown my imaging chip now. Boy has this been fun to watch!

Just watched a 90 min. documentary on PBS discussing the controversial theory of "*Intelligent Design" The show titled JUDGEMENT DAY. Maybe some of you gentleman who frequent these threads, and I see several names that are quite attentive had the opportunity to view it. Basically the Term *ID was a synonym for "Creationism" in a somewhat surreptitious LOGO. Although a Magician can readily pull a rabbit out of a hat, one watching this slight of hand, knows (hopefully) that the hat did not give birth to the rabbit, nor did the rabbit appear out of thin air... it began as an embryo, just as the chicken did not suddenly fly out of the sky fully developed, it's early start was within an egg... the soup of primordial soup. Just as we began in the Ovum... nurtured through the umbilical.... This is rational reasoning is it not? Though some will teach their children differently?? Why? Because The GENESIS account says that both Parents had no umbilicals (Belly Buttons) this is where the Problems begin... The very first offspring commits the first *murder by killing it's brother. Please draw a distinction between rationalization and superstition. Here is a quote from Mr. G. Carlin that pretty much answers the question; Why Religion has to be so *Hostile... "RELIGION HAS ACTUALLY CONVINCED PEOPLE THAT THERE'S AN INVISIBLE MAN - LIVING UP IN THE SKY - WHO WATCHES EVERYTHING EVERYBODY DOES EVERY SECOND OF THE DAY. AND THIS INVISIBLE MAN HAS A LIST OF TEN THINGS HE DOES NOT WANT YOU TO DO. THOSE WHO DISOBEY HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE HE HAS PREPARED READY FOR THEM, FULL OF FIRE AND BURNING TORTURE WHERE HE WILL SEND THEM TO SUFFER, BURN AND NEVER DIE, BUT REMAIN FOREVER TILL THE END OF TIME....BUT HE LOVES YOU! And lets not forget there is an alternative plan He had.. To send down from the sky his son through a Virgin birth, no Sperm involved this time (why? I have never figured that one out yet) although the baby did receive subsidence/nourishment through the conventional means this time.. The plan was to have this man murdered/killed to Save potential others from plan A (Hell fire forever remember) after the preconcieved brainstorm ends He sends an angel (spirit being) down to remove the heavy stone that seals this poor man's fate. Then up, up and away! Back to where he came from..to join the 3rd party in the group. That would be the Ghost I believe. Please understand I am not an atheist although reading my take on these observations would lead you to believe it. GOD is just a word man has issued, backwards it's spelling is just another word. There are many names used to describe this Deity, YAHWEH, JEHOVAH, the American indigenous tribes word was translated as the great spirit or creator.. the one who provides fresh water, salmon, deer, berries, rainbows, and the "happy hunting ground" for future afterlife. When white man's CHRISTIAN STORY reach them the message was... what you have believed through your ancestors is false, here is GOD on this CROSS. There is only one way to be saved from HELL.. and so it goes my friend... Young children in the Middle East are raised to believe to "blow themselves up" is to enter Heaven..... I have been showing my young 8 year old that the sharp thorns hidden amongst the delicious balckberries are there for a reason, yes there is an inherent design, function and purpose for the defense displayed here. Form and function is something my son will study and learn about in later grades. Here he observes that a rabbit can be saved from the canines of a wolf by entering the thorns.. a cat's claws have the same shape, a red tail hawk 's talon employs the same shape, curved sharp and can penetrate.. Nature is the designer, The creator and force of the universe designed nature, Now the mystery: Who designed the Creator ? Answer that and you get what's behind door # 3 JM

Hi John:

I didn't see the show. My understanding of ID is that it is just a stupid backdoor way to get the Genesis account of creation into public schools. I'm probably oversimplifying, the subject is uninteresting to me, even though I am a Christian.

However, this is not why I'm replying to your post.

How about the title of your thread, in juxtaposition with the amazingly rambling content! Whoa, is this modern non-linear association poetry at it's incomprehensible best....?

Or do you just need to blow the dust off of the old return key?

Does Genesis really say that Adam and Eve had no belly buttons? If so, I never knew that, but my biblical scholarship is pretty slipshod.

Take care, Jim

I expect them to say that DC has the right to ban them. What do you think? What will be more interesting will be the final split and the wording from the court. Depending on the wording this could be a big deal or a dud.

Hi Jim:

You phrased the issue well. The long version of the issue presented from the petition for Certiorari is:

"Whether the Second Amendment forbids the District of
Columbia from banning private possession of handguns
while allowing possession of rifles and shotguns."

If the Supreme Court decides that the 2nd Amendment does allow the District of Columbia to ban handguns, the worst case scenario is that states (blue states I presume) who have the votes can enact bans. Watch out for the press spinning the issue as a nation-wide ban on guns.

"Democrat Hillary Clinton would lose to all major Republican White House candidates, according to a hypothetical election matchup poll Monday, reversing her months of dominance over potential 2008 challengers."

A few months back, there were those here on this forum who were so shrill in their hatred for Bush that they were predicting a landslide for anyone that the Dems put up. How times have changed. Now that we are getting close to actually voting, the current leader amongst the Dem field would lose to any of the leading Repub candidates. This may be just what it takes to give Obama what he needs to overtake Hillary.

Don't get your hopes up Jim. Democrat John Zogby embarrassed himself in 2004. He is merely trying to energize the base.

By far the best analysis of polling data may be found on Dave Wissing's Hedgehog report.

http://www.hedgehogreport.com/

http://www.hedgehogreport.com/polls2008prez.php?gop=Giuliani&dem=Clinton

He is a Republican, but first and foremost he is a statistician who understands politics. He correctly predicted virtually every election in 2004 on the basis of multi-poll analysis when individual pollsters like Zogby were calling for a Kerry win because "the undecideds will break for the challenger" and other non-scientific crap. His post mortem on the 2004 election was brilliant.

Oprah

Posted By James Brown

Did you see that Oprah is going to be actively campaigning for Obama? If Oprah's influence extends beyond books, records and movies (where she is an unqualified king-maker) this could be the event that breaks Hillary's back.

My guess is that an endorsement by Oprah is the biggest, strongest and most effective political endorsement any candidate can get in the United States. Who else would even be close? In a word, I bet this is huge.
