Flailing away at NGC7331

I see nothing to complain about in that shot, I for one would be proud to have taken and processed it. You certainly flattened out that gradient big time! What was your process to handle it? Guess I have another book to check out.
Nice work,
Larry

M27's lion's mane

Outer shell indeed! Man, that is one impressive image, showing detail I for one have never seen.
Can't wait for the color (although I think you've got a keeper already).

Jim,
You top yourself with each glob. That's really spectacular right to the core.

Tyler,
Another outstanding image--the detail is amazing. I shot this one for the third time this summer, but can see that I'll need lots more time on it.

Larry

I'd be jumping for joy if that were my finished image! Great shot and plenty of detail (but I know the feeling about always wanting more wink )

An Ode to a Pelican

Eric,
I don't know which I enjoyed more: your message or your image. You certainly were getting direction from some amazing imagers in their own right, and it definitely shows in your processing. Those filters seem like fun.
Thanks for sharing the tale,
Larry

Identifying Objects

Another source is Heavens-above.com. It's really an amazing site...once you register it will have your location. You can generate tables of all satellite passes listing location, direction, magnatude, even details on origin, date of launch, etc. I also use it to generate quick star charts for an evening's shooting.
Check it out,
Larry

Dan,
Absolutely awesome--that extra night was worth it. You're showing me the area as I've never seen it before.
Congratulations on this image,

Paul,
Congrats on the image. Seems like you're enjoying the camera and DSOs! If you don't mind a comment or two, in addition to going for more time, I suspect you're clipping the blackpoint during postprocessing, so you might be covering up dim stars in the background.
BTW, I really enjoyed going through your gallery of lunar and solar system shots. Incredible stuff! Makes me want to get out my Toucam (although this deep space stuff is just too addictive!).
Clear skies,
Larry
