I see a pair of 22x60 Fluorite Tak Astronomical Bino for sale in the Classified section of Bino's. They are the ones with the constellations pictured on the bodies. Has anyone had the opportunity to view through a pair of these?? I currently have a pair of ORION 20x80 Wide-Angle MegaViews. with a 3.5ยบ field of view. The Takahashi's sell new for $1100. Sounds like APO Glass! thank you, JM

Newbie Question? focusing screens..which one??

Just entering film photography, purchased a like new OM-1 ..It came with a split image type screen. has the # 13 on the tab. I had the photo shop replace it (using the tweezers) with a # 8...The current lenses I have are a 50mm. Zuiko, a 200mm.f4 Zuiko, and a 500mm. Quantaray mirror lens. I am wondering what is the best choice of screens for Astro work? Thanks, John Meiners, Astoria, OR.

PST vs. SM 40

I am enjoying (and so are my friends I share images with) my little PST. Looking at the $$ of a 60mm. near 4K, makes my wife tremble over my shoulder. My question is: The dedicated SolarMax 40 scope is well within my grasp $$. Has anyone seen a side by side comparison of the PST & 40 SM? Thank you. JM

Have tried with limited success capturing wildlife, Elk, deer, Geese, turkeys, ect. with my OM-1 35mm. film camera, used a 200 & 500mm. lens. explanation of F-ratio

Could someone please explain (in simple terms "if possible") how the F-ratio system affects visual veiwing when resolving objects with let's say a refractor. I see f/5, f/6, f/8, on different refractors.. as an example a 102mm.f/5 widefield Celestron refractor gives a certain field of view. based on the f/5 what is the influence? thank you for clearing this up for me (us) JM

First of all; what distinguishes an Apochromat from an Achromatic refractor? and then there is the terms: Fluorite, FD, ED, Triple, Doublet, oil-spaced. well that's just a starter! Thanks for your Expertise in this area. (Hope this will help many newcomers to our Hobby) JM

Going to pose an inquiry in the "refrator" forum section just in case someone there has heard something. This is a type of achromat that is being made by "Aries Instruments". Less false color on bright objects, APO resolution... thanks, John M

Chromacorr Corrector ??

Has anyone heard any news about the scope that Aries Instrument makes? It basically transforms an Achromatic type objective lens by means of a corrector to resolve bright objects that view like APOs do ?? JM
