Why is it that Oil is at $40 a barrel, gas is goin

I can not help but notice that gas prices are creeping up again. The price of oil is much lower than for the last 4 years and yet the price is about $2.35 a gallon again, when it was $1.50 a gallon with the price of oil even higher.
Seems to me we are still getting some kind of manipulation here.
An oil watchdog group in California attributes our higher costs of gasoline to the fact that refiners manipulate their prices by shipping gas refined in our state to other states which artificially lowers the oil/gas inventories in California. The latter is a ruse which serves to decrease quantities of oil/gas so even a more limited demand will propel gasoline prices much higher. The refiners have a good thing going for themselves...

Californians' Shafted Five Ways To Sunday

Posted By Rod Kaufman

California taxpayers will take it on the chin with five soon to be enacted tax increases on everything from gasoline to income tax to sales tax and more:

Of course, big business will come out smelling like a rose while the rest of us pay for illegals, pork barrel projects and the like.
I'll be one of the first to sign a petition to have the gasoline tax revoked as soon as it is enacted.
I predict a California voter revolt!...

Thank You California Republicans

Posted By Rod Kaufman

For standing up against tax increases imposed by our Republican governor and his Democratic supporters.
The Republicans may ultimately fail but at least they're trying:

The Dems are concerned about 276 (their count) of "public works projects" that might not proceed. I hope they don't because you wouldn't miss them anyway!
California taxpayers are not ATM machines!

Illegal Immigration and Crime

Posted By Rod Kaufman

I can recall past threads on this subject which essentially involved supporters of undocumented individuals who stated the latter did not result in an increase in criminal activity. Although the studies cited at that time didn't seem to satisfy supporters of the rights of illegal aliens, perhaps this study will:
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-immig19-2009feb19,0,2382403.story
Shouldn't we consider this in allowing illegal individuals in our society to obtain driver's licenses and the right to vote?

I'll Sleep Better Tonight

Knowing where my tax dollars are going:

While the rest of us fund it and pork barrel projects from:

And:
Raising your sales tax to 10% and doubling your car registration tax and your placing a surcharge on your income.
There's nothing quite like raising your taxes in the middle of a recession now is there?

Re: And now the tax increases

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Obama's plan is essentially the same plan that he announced during his campaign so there's no surprises here. Some temporary tax cuts would be allowed to expire so the max rate would return from 35% to 39%, which, if I recall correctly, is the same as that during the Clinton years when we had a budget surplus. As stated in the article, this would affect the wealthy and not the middle class. Given the trillion plus deficit handed to him by the team Jim Babcock helped vote into office, it's about time something is done about it, don't you think?...

Is Osama Bin Laden British?

Evidently, according to this article, he can be:

And OBL apparently has a lot of help in doing his bidding:

Maybe we're looking for him in the wrong place..

Illegal Aliens and Public Assistance

Posted By Rod Kaufman

I was wondering how illegal aliens in California obtain so many social security numbers before applying for public assistance. I finally found the answer. It seems they go to the hall of records and obtain SS numbers from the death certificates of deceased children. Then they buy a copy of their birth certificates and subsequently apply for welfare. See answer 4 in the link:

What a racket, especially when you consider the actual costs to the California budget:
