Mars has been beautiful Jim, I've only been out a few times in the last few weeks, but tonight is looking promising. Damn smoke has been pretty bad though. I've watched Mars rise through the smoky haze several recent evenings and it makes the normal "orange-ish" red planet looks like a stoplight it is so red!
The smoke is a telling political topic too. In my view, the California drought and resulting wildfires are exacerbated by climate change. AND the wildfires are significantly worsened by years of bad forest management. AND the cost is hugely escalated by people building right up against the forests (beach, etc. me included, but at least I know who to blame if my house burns, "moi" ) AND the rotting CA power infrastructure is to blame in some cases. AND morons who light fires seem to be more prevalent these days.
All of this stuff is correct and all of these "reasons" can coexist legitimately
and scientifically. It bugs me that the true partisans of the political world can only see (or only express) one side of the story, while claiming that the science is on their side. Both sides do this reflexively. We heard it last night and it marred an otherwise pretty good debate.
