Republicans Try "Reshape" Image

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Are they kidding!?
First, they have to deal with their own conservative protestors: McCain's a RINO,(Republican in name only).
Second, they choose Virgina, the home state of virtual no-gun laws Shangri-La, to initiate their battle cry.
Third, they have Jeb Bush attempting to inculcate some common sense: "listen a little bit, learn a little bit". After reading what they did, it's obvious they didn't listen or learn anything.
Fourth, they bring up Flip Romney whose positions on the issues continue to change with which ever way the winds blows and boy does it blow with that guy. What does Flip come up with today? Republicans are the revolutionaries! This is the same guy who called the George W Bush presidency, "The Bush Revolution!" (It would be funny if it weren't so tragic).
Fifth, back to brother Jeb (and this one's a doozy)"I would say you can't beat something with nothing!" (In other words, the Republicans HAVE NOTHING). Jeb continues, "The other side has something!" (Really? You mean the White House and congress and their political process?) "I don't like it but they have it!" This guy's a riot!
Sixth, the only one who made any sense on the whole thing wasn't a Republican at all! It was our president who said of the Republicans and their plight, "I don't believe in crystal balls, I do think our administration has taken steps to restore confidence in the American people..." Pragmatic, to say the least, as opposed to the Republican party of "No."
Seventh, the Republicans actually managed to recognize the obvious and commended president Obama as "forward looking".
Eight, they're taking the show back on the road with more of those "town hall meetings." Not again, more reruns!
Ah yes, the Republicans and Rush look to the future and they find...radio!

Rice Defends Bush on Torture

Posted By Rod Kaufman

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/05/03/rice.interrogations/index.html
On 60 minutes tonight, it was stated that the Bush administration had released as many as 500 detainees from Gitmo. I never realized they had so many in that place. I wonder if they all got the same treatment.
Anyway, the point of my read on Rice in the above link is it seems to say Bush didn't authorize anything illegal but that's only because his administration, in essence and in execution, established what they thought was legal first (ie they established what was legal themselves) and then went ahead and did what they wanted to do.
Anybody have a different take on it?

Obama Goes After Flip Romney's Money Machine

Posted By Rod Kaufman

It's about time and it took a Democratic president to proceed to close the loophole:
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-na-obama-tax5-2009may05,0,5662505.story
This loophole is how Flip Romney and his company made a lot of people rich. I hope Obama succeeds and shuts down the loophole...

If This Were The Koran

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Do you think they would have gathered them up and destroyed them?
http://www.onenewsnow.com/Security/Default.aspx?id=516980
PS Just the other month, a US general who was given a copy of the Koran was commenting on how great the book is as he was reading it. I thought official US military policy was not to voice your opinions on religious materials. After all, coming from a top officer such as a general, the comments carry a lot of weight, do they not?...

GM to send jobs overseas

While Obama is disclosing his plans to close "loopholes" for American companies, looks like GM is taking billions and billions of our tax dollars and sending American jobs to Korea, Mexico, and get this, China.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/07/AR2009050704336.html

I love this quote: "Essentially in control of the company, [President Obama] faces an awkward choice: [He] can either require General Motors to keep more jobs at home, potentially raising labor costs at a company already beset with financial woes, or [he] can risk political fury by allowing the automaker to expand operations at lower-cost manufacturing locations."

Even more amusing is the quote from Robert B Reich: "It's an almost impossible dilemma," said former labor secretary Robert B. Reich, now a professor at the University of California-Berkeley. "GM is a global company... That means that bailing them out doesn't necessarily redound (sic) to the benefit of the U.S. or American workers." No kidding Sherlock! It was months ago that GM announced that it was sending one billion of bailout money to Brazil, to shore up their operations in that country. It's taken you this long to figure that out? Geeeze...

First of all, this proposed restructuring has nothing to do with closing loopholes and second, negotiations regarding the plan are, according to the link, just beginning. In other words, nothing is set in stone nor is it reasonable to blame the Obama administration.

Obama: Right On Afghanistan

Unlike Bush, Obama is right on target in Afghanistan. This, from a conservative author:

Re: Thanks Obama

I think this particular poll may be just a glitch. In general, if you do enough polls on an issue such as this one, you're eventually going to get one, statistically speaking, that goes counter to the norm. It's going to happen.
It's interesting to look at the realities involving birth rates, abortions and birth control during periods of severe economic downturn:
http://www.wickedlocal.com/cambridge/archive/x1102488292/Is-recession-affecting-birth-rate
and:

and:

I like the take of one of the above that sports the position that more kids helps spur on recessions. It makes a lot of sense: more kids, less work on the job for mom, more deductions, less revenue for the government, more cutbacks, more deficits, layoffs etc.
Yep, keep popping them out so the rest of us can pay for them...
