1. The poll referred to currently illegal drugs; marijuana, cocaine and heroin. Not cigarettes, chocolate or alcohol (although, with all the misery it causes, it wouldn't bother me to see alcohol made illegal again).

2. The poll currently indicates (with 39 respondents) that 90% advocate legalizing one or more illegal drugs. This is nuts! Haven't you liberals screwed up this country enough?

3. Put ME in charge of the court system and you'd see some big changes. No more O. J. trials. I'd start by dismantling the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. It's time to streamline the system and clean up the gene pool.

4. I'd put drug dealers first in line in MY court system, right up there with murderers, rapists and child molesters.


Now, that should clear up a few things around here!

I just took a look at the big pie chart on the front page of my local newspaper, which shows where my governor is spending my state's share of the "Porkulus" money. (See attached graphic.)

The biggest chunk (33%) is going to Health & Welfare (emphasis on Welfare), with only 2.9% going to higher education. With a daughter half-way through college, I'm also looking at an announced 10% increase in tuition.

It seems to me that this money would be better spent on expanding higher education which would lower the number of people on the welfare rolls. Am I wrong?

No, but then I really don't know where to look. H&W is pretty good at burying such embarrassing information. The one exception I can remember was back in 2002 when it came out that H&W spent over $100,000 of taxpayer money on a new logo. (See attached graphic.)

According to the Idaho Dept. of Labor it's currently 6.8%, below the national average. Couldn't find a 2010 forecast.

The only problem with that is that my state (Idaho) is already rated 49th in the nation for per-pupil spending on K-12 education, well below the national average. I'm also appalled at the number of illiterate high school "graduates". Since the state has killed virtually every high school vocational education program, graduates have to go to college just to learn some saleable skill.


Also, H&W is an amorphous term, "welfare" has a broader meaning than you are implying. It almost certainly includes items such as childhood immunizations and subsidizing day care, things that help keep the working poor working.

With Idaho ranked 45th in the nation for childhood immunizations, H&W isn't doing such a great job. All I see are 1.) unemployed single females (of varied races/nationalities) driving beater cars (with no insurance) full of kids, going to Walmart and, 2.) out of school males who would rather ride skateboards and play Guitar Hero than get a job. Drives me nuts!

Old enough to remember the great Tex Avery cartoons produced by Warner Brothers and MGM during the golden age of Hollywood animation. The guy was a genius, way ahead of his time. They were entertaining for both kids and adults, very non-PC and just plain crazy. What an imagination he had!
