Obama's Outreach Speech

Posted By Rod Kaufman

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-obama-cairo5-2009jun05,0,2725096.story
While I felt our president's speech was reasonably balanced, I can't say the same for the audience in attendance. By that I mean I looked for but couldn't find women in attendance other than perhaps a token one or two, and I'm wondering why? I thought one of the unspoken objectives was to recognize equality for the muslim world, was it not?

So What's Your State Doing?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

What is your home state doing to deal with the recession?
A nice article by CNN with a map that you can click on state by state to see the number of jobs provided the stimulus, number of bank failures, foreclosures and unemployment figures. Michigan is closing prisons but the article isn't clear on where the prisoners are going. (Maybe we need a map for that, too.)
http://money.cnn.com/2009/06/05/news/economy/Michigan_closes_prisons/index.htm?postversion=2009060614
I'd also be interested in knowing what kind of jobs the stimulus is providing.

Obama: Ramping Up The Jobs

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Jim Babcock said:

Wrong. The right believes that there is plenty that actually could have been done. However "the ONE" had to pay back his cronies for getting his regime into power and to do the maximum damage possible to the country. It was he who said never let a disaster go by without taking full advantage. He never has been focused on actually fixing the economy he is more interested in taking over industries, schmoozing with buddies like Chavez and increasing the debt as much as possible. Republicans are completely irrelevant since Obama and other socialists are in complete control. So even if there are a few on the right who would rather do nothing, it makes no difference. What is important for citizens to do is for them to oppose policies of a President who when they believe those policies are destructive to the country. Obama provides more reasons to oppose his policies on a daily basis. So good conservatives should oppose him on that basis. That is not doing nothing or being negative. It is being realistic about a situation when an extreme socialist liberal and his friends have complete control and any idea they present is opposed by those in power.
"Any idea is opposed by those in power." WHAT IDEA? If you bothered to read the link, the "leader" of the Republican party in congress simply opposes anything on the table without offering a job creation strategy other than saying the economy will get better on its own. Yeah, right...

Obama: Ramping Up The Jobs

I like the Republican response: In essence do nothing and the problem will take care of itself! Geez! In other words let's have a jobless recovery! That's about as good as the Bush "plan" to stimulate jobs: send 40 something year old people back to community colleges to learn IT skills! That's the same "plan" that McCain had adopted in his campaign! Twice nothing is still nothing!
Yup, the typical Republican response: bury your head in the sand (or elsewhere) and make believe it's not that bad...

Republicans: Who's Your Daddy?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Jim Babcock said:

None of the above. Being the diverse party that believes in freedom of speech and democracy, we believe that at this time it is not important for us to appoint any one person to speak for us. The Dems are in complete control of the government and likely will remain so for 3.5 years. We are happy having Obama being the focal point for political discord. Appointing a single voice for the right would deflect the well deserved attention that the dictator gets daily. I know that it is frustrating for the libs to not have a person to make the devil as a focal point. The left has attempted to choose a leader for us, but it will not work. The idiot in the White House will remain the focus. Nice try though.
Jim,
The polls consistently demonstrate a high level of voter satisfaction with our president. The question is who can the voters recognize as the leader and speaker for the Republican party? Looks like it's a toss up between Larry, Moe and Curly Joe!

So who's your choice to speak and lead for the Republican party?
Newt? Dick? Rush?
Ah yes, the giants...

I got the impression from reading threads here on AM, and messages on both moveon.org and democraticunderground.com. I believe in seeing all perspectives. Liberal commentators and elected libs are constrained. Going to sites like the ones I listed provides a less filtered perspective of exactly what the left's base really think.
Jim,
I didn't get the same impression from reading moveon.org or the posts here on the AM. I believe everybody hoped for a change in the Iranian presidency, including Democrats, Republicans and the Iranians themselves. It seems fairly obvious the election was a sham and the brutal crackdown on the protesters in Iran adds more evidence that the Islamofascists that control the country will stop at nothing to continue their stranglehold on as much of the middle east as they can...

Lefties were so sure that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would lose control of Iran. They stated directly that Obama just giving ONE speech to the terrorists was enough for the world to change and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would suddenly not be in control of Iran. While everyone would like to see a friendlier government in Iran, those who have a brain understand that the idiot in the White House had nothing to do with the decisions of those in Iran.

Iran is if anything more under the control of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Will the Obama lemmings admit the truth Obama's lack of genius and diplomacy, or will they continue their delusion?

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/15/world/middleeast/15assess.html?_r=1&ref=world
Jim,
Where did you get the idea that the "leftists" or whomever thought Ahmadinejad would lose?
Actually, the supreme leader of Iran is the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who is unelected and approves any and all major policy decision including ratifying the results of the election which he called an "divine assessment." The Ayatollah Ali Khamaniac calls all of the shots in Iran, along with the soon to be enabled nuclear ones.

Obama: Moving on Oil

Posted By Rod Kaufman

In stark contrast to George W Bush, who had to be informed by a news reporter that oil was headed up to $4.00/gallon, Obama is reacting proactively to bein the process of curbing oil speculation:
