El Capitan, YosemitePosted By Fred Lusk |
Lewis…
VERY nice.
Tomorrow my wife and I are taking a day trip to Yosemite. We live in Fresno and go several times a year, mostly to avoid yard work. My plan is to observe and photograph climbers on El Cap with my new Celestron CPC 800 and my Olympus E-1 DSLR.
We have a good friend from high school who is a rock climber and we took her to Yosemite last year after our 30-year reunion. As we watched the climbers in binoculars she explained what they were doing. Funny thing is she lived in Fresno for at least five years before and during high school and had never been to Yosemite. She will get a kick out of the photos.
After that, we will venture up to either Washburn Point or Glacier Point and set up the scope again. I'm also bringing my solar filter because there are two nice sunspots near the middle. I expect we will get a line of people wanting to look, which is part of the fun. One or more astronomy clubs will be up at Glacier Point tonight and tomorrow night for public observing, but we need to get get back home before it gets too late, so we will miss the fun. Unfortunately, our club's stint at Glacier Point this conflicts with a preplanned vacation.
