Coating Disaster - Nova Optical Systems

Posted By john raymond

In the past year I've had really good dealings with John Lightholder. Even if you're not buying one of his mirrors he is full of advice.
When he refigured my 18" mirror I had updates every week or two - even after he sent it to Spectrum for coating.
His 12.5 mirror is the most amazing optic.

I tried 2242 in Auriga last night from my backyard. Mag 4 skies + poor transparency resulted in negative observation. It's on my list. I was able to see 14th may stars in the FOV, and match the field with Skytools.
Sunday I friend and I were able to observe J900 in Gemini and iC 2149 in Aur under similar conditions. These are easy and bright.

“Your Favorite” or “The Best” Telescope for Visual

Posted By john raymond

A well corrected Newtonian design at least 10" aperture, with premium mirror like Zambuto, Lockwood , Lightholder, or Royce Conical. Used with a premium binoviewer.
A dob with Servocat is much more portable than a beefy EQ mount. But....
An EQ mount you can try different scopes until you find one you like.

If you dont want a newt: Tak Mewlon, Celestron Edge 11, any AP, TEC, or Tak refractor.

It's been my experience that a good binoviewer will improve the view dramatically with an average scope, and is a better investment than changing OTA's; aperture usually wins, provided it's cooled and collimated.
Good Luck!

nagler 7mm type 6

The one in your ad is not the type 6. Both the eyepice and box for the type 6's are clearly labelled.
You have the old style 7 Nagler.

Scott
I see six active ads under your name. The economy has hit people hard. Selling isn't easy anymore. I don't think you'll have much trouble. If certain items don't sell, place a new ad after a week or two.

9mm Nagler Type 1 No Good?

Posted By john raymond

1. The market's really bad right now and been that way for a while.
2. Just keep posting every couple of weeks or so
3. It's hot, folks are doing summer stuff, traveling, beach, not thinking of another eyepiece
4. I have one already
5. Everyone's so into the cheap crap that the very notion of quality was lost some years ago
Good luck

Matthew, you've certainly amassed plenty of equipment.

What about knowledge? Have you read any of the titles pictured? It's a good start.

Success in this hobby is a mix of equipment, knowledge, and experience.
Good luck
