I received my PST today

Posted By Jim Moscheck

Hey Bob,

I want a look through it sometime. grin

We still have to get together and go out to Lake Hudson one of these days. There is a group going Saturday if it's clear.

Hi Joel,

I don't know much about the structure, but I've been using mine for a month now. Ed makes a excellent mirror, you won't be disappointed. 8)

First Light at last!

Posted By Jim Moscheck

Hi Kerry,

Congratulations. 8" to 16" is a serious jump in aperture. grin

Please post a few pictures of the telescope!

I was out last night, too, mucking around in Leo and Ursa major, mostly just joyriding and enjoying the views. One of these days I'll have to get serious and really learn my way around these galaxy clusters, but it seems when we do finally get out to dark skies a lot of the time is spent socializing. :S

Chop Saw Blade

Posted By Jim Moscheck

I was told to use a regular wood blade and aluminum would cut just like wood. I don't know if this is true as I didn't trust it. Maybe someone here can confirm it.

I used a pipe cutter- it only took most of the evening to get my poles cut to length. :S

Very nice Christine!

I like the first one the best, but they're all nice. Very green in your parts, here in Michigan too.

Weather balloon

Hope this comes out. In the EP it looked like the Death Star exploding in StarWars. wink Afterwards it looked like an expanding, while you watch, open cluster.

NEWT guru needed?

Posted By Jim Moscheck

Hi Buck,

I had the same questions when designing my scope. NEWT said I needed a secondary larger than the one I ended up with. I called Brian at Protostar and he said in my 14.5" telescope to go with the 2.6" secondary making sure that I use a low profile focuser and had my lowest power EP just come to focus when the focuser was racked in almost all the way. I have about a 1/4" of in focus left just in case I ever get a 31T5. wink I've noticed no light loss at the edges of my 26T5.

Call Brian at Protostar and see what he has to say about your example.

Baader Contrast Booster

Posted By Jim Moscheck

That's great Larry. I bought mine when Mars was at it's closest a few years ago and it helps with the icecaps and the dark features. I'll have to try it again on Jupiter and Saturn, but honestly the planetary views have been so good in my new scope I haven't thought of it. Looking forward to Mars' return and Jupiter if it could only get a little bit higher in the sky.
