Differences in diagonals?

I think one of the bigger differences will be not so much optical quality, but mechanical robustness. A high quality diagonal is usually better collimated and has luxuries such as a compression ring. When I moved from a cheap 2" diagonal to a William Optics 2", I did notice an improvement in overall image sharpness.

Check out the Yahoo! group for the ED80. They listed a few sources. McMaster Carr (www.mcmastercarr.com) has one that fits nicely, but I don't remember the part # (which is on the Yahoo! group).

The variety of answers you get with M/C scopes is amazing...LOL. The 2 large Meades at our club are both quite nice. There is a 10" newt on a GEM and a 16" dob and both are pretty good optically. The 16" compares favorably to the 15" Obsession setup near it if collimated well (favorably means performace for cost ratio).

Sounds like a pretty good deal, I really enjoyed the 2 ETXs I had. There were a good little planetary/lunar high power scope to go along with me on car trips.

If the scope is in great condition, that's about average. I suggest going through the Astromart archives and see the average prices for LX200s and equivalent scopes. The archives go back a looooooong way, so I know there will be plenty of ads to see.

The LX200 is a great scope IMO and I've enjoyed my 8" LX200 for quite a few years now.
