Vixen VC200L anybody have one ?

Posted By Joplin Motisher-Chittenden

You might try asking on the Vixen forum as well, I know of at least one person who has one and has posted there. I don't have first hand experience with one but I have used its sibling, the VMC200L. The VC200L is deffinitely designed with 35mm photography in mind and has a large un-vignetted field of view. Build quality is excellent and the focuser is excellent so long as nobody has tried to adjust it incorrectly. Primary advantages over a SCT are resistance to dewing, zero image shift, and more collimation adjustments. Image quality seems to be a about equal to an excellent sample SCT of equal aperture (at least in the case of my VMC200L). Check out the review on scopereviews.com and the yahoo group - VC200L for more information.

A couple of tests with Fuji Provia

Great images Jose,

How do you like the Denkmeier Star Sweeper so far ? I'm curious whether it vignetts the frame much and how it compares to the F 6.3 reducers sold by Celestron and Meade.

BW-Optik 30mm 80 degree Eyepiece

I've got the 1rpd version as well. I'm waiting on a 2" to SCT thread adapter so I can use my 2" diagonal with my C9.25. I'll give a report when I get a chance to use them together.

Digital Rebel question

You could look into the Denkmeier Optical 2" OCS, which is normally used to increase backfocus for binoviewers but can also be used for photography:

sony mavica adapter questions

Posted By Joplin Motisher-Chittenden

Charles,

You would be using afocal projection since the lens on the camera can't be removed. Basically, you just need an adapter with 37mm threads on it that will fit on one or more of your eyepieces. You can attach that to an eyepiece, then screw it into the filter threads on your camera. The widest selection of adapters is a available at http://www.scopetronix.com Some eyepieces work better than others but in general, the wider the apparent field of view and greater the eye relief the better. Since your scopes have fairly long focal lengths I'd suggest using an eyepiece in the 25 to 40mm range to start off with.

Question about the 9.25"

Posted By Joplin Motisher-Chittenden

According to Celestron, the C9.25 is 7.5lbs lighter than the C11 and 1 inch shorter in length. I recently picked up a C9.25 in trade on Astromart in trade which seems to have excellent optics, though I haven't been able to use it under the best seeing conditions. I think the longer primary focal ratio probably makes the C9.25 slightly less sensitive to errors in collimation, which may help explain why these scopes seem to be so consistent. I have also noticed that there is less mirror shift on my particular C9.25 than any other Schmidt Cassegrain I've looked through. The difference between a C8 and a C9.25 is more noticeable than I would expect given the fairly small difference in aperture. A C11 will certainly beat the C9.25 on deep sky objects. I haven't done any side by side comparisons with a C11 so I can't comment on planetary performance differences.

most disliked scope?

Posted By Joplin Motisher-Chittenden

Mine was a Meade 97D 90mm maksutov spotting scope. Permanently out of collimation and just a pain to use in general. In fairness to Meade, the ETX series is far superior to it. From what I've heard the Orion maks are much better as well.

Who makes this EP??

Posted By Joplin Motisher-Chittenden

It is made by Kokusai Kohki in Japan. It is sold by a few dealers in the U.S. Helix is an Astromart sponsor and carries this series of eyepieces. Here is a link to more info from the company that makes them:

Sun dog and wispy clouds

I like the clouds in the first image better but the sun dog is much more obvious in this image. Noticed the bird flying through at lower right after I took the shot.

Outside Diameter Of 9.25 SCT OTA

Posted By Joplin Motisher-Chittenden

I just measured mine (grey tube model with starbright coatings, a couple years old) at a little over 10.5" To be more precise, the front and rear sections where the radius blocks mount to have an outer diameter of 268mm / 10.55 inches. I recently traded for this scope on astromart and have been very impressed with the optics and minimal mirror shift in this unit.
