Ohio's looking pretty bushy...

Posted By Paul Kammueller

With 80% of the precincts in and a stubborn 130,000 vote spread through nearly the entire count, Bush may soon have Ohio. It's practically there. If Ohio goes red then it's over -- that with Alaska gets Bush his 270 electoral votes

Term II: The Social Agenda!

Posted By Paul Kammueller

OK, well with a number of Supreme Court judicial seats in the balance for the second term, and the white house and congress both solidly republican, there is now a commanding one-party domination of the government and can expect some movement on the following issues on the right's social agenda:

- New Constitutional limits to marriage rights
- New limits to abortion or banning thereof
- Continued erosion of privacy and civil rights with Patriot Act II
- More commingling of church and state

In short, we are now well on the march to a more authoritarian regime. I will be the first to congratulate our Republican overlords, as I do not want to arouse the suspicion of the government that would justify being detained indefinitely. 8)

Dancing the Tango

Posted By Paul Kammueller

"We are dancing the tango. When you are dancing the tango and your toe is stepped on, hurting your toe, you complain. If it is stepped on harder, you complain again. There's a whole game, but we are prepared to continue dancing the tango."

>Bin Laden is going to have to come out of his cave and get some batteries for that video camera sooner or later. And when he does a G.I. is going to 'tombstone' his tail.<

Bin Laden is safe for another 4 years. It's pretty plain that Bush doesn't see him as any more of a priority today than he did before 9/11.

I could be wrong, who knows if we ever get this Iraq thing out of our system then maybe eventually Bush will get back to the war on terror. But I'm not too confident in this regard, the president gets easily distracted.

Euphemism for a Mandate

Posted By Paul Kammueller

Hey, heard the latest? Bush says he has earned "political capital" now. And he intends to spend it.

Looks like whenever his approval rating gets unacceptably high (say 51%) he decides its time to push some agenda items to get back down to his 'comfort level' of 30-40% approval ratings.
