Just curious - if you had your way, would your roll back the Colorado Worker's Comp insurance requirements? Would you roll back Medicare and Medicaid? Would you roll back the FICA taxes that fund Social Security?
I suppose Ayn Rand would do this - she would say that anyone who does not plan for an on-job injury, health insurance if they are old or disabled, or who does not plan for their own retirement has only him or herself to blame.
I get it, I am a fan of that line of thinking,
within reason. But I would never even consider rolling back Worker's Comp., Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security - even though those programs are funded by
government mandated payroll taxes split between the employee and the employer of course.
As a conservative, I want to resist expanding these programs too much, which is why I voted against 118. But as a human being, I understand the human sufferings that would be caused if we took this line of thinking to the logical "Ayn Rand" conclusion and disbanded the Workers Comp, Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security programs to eliminate those confiscatory taxes. We lost on ballot measure 118 and we have one more program to pay for. I don't think that is a great idea, for the same reasons you don't. But I see the benefit to the workforce, so I'm not nearly as upset about it as you are.
