A bipartisan effort to kill costly health reform

Posted By Rod Kaufman

What a ridiculous spin by David. The House bill will extend coverage to an additional 36 million people leaving only 4% without coverage compared to the 17% we have now:

And, as I have already posted, the Republican version will actually increase the number of uninsured in the country.

Pearl Harbor 2007

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Anybody watch "60 Minutes" this evening? It was reported, apparently for the first time, that the US suffered a major cyber attack by an unknown foreign power in 2007. Multiple defense system computers were hacked as well as others throughout various systems in our government. "Terabytes" of information were systematically conquered and taken as spoils of war. A deliberate act of domestic terrorism visited upon America by a foreign power. Why didn't you hear about it? The Bush administration suppressed it. As explained by government officials present at the time, when things aren't going to well at home, you don't divulge that kind of thing. So the next time someone exclaims there weren't any attacks on the continental US after 9/11 while Bush was in office, you can tell them horse pucky...

Four Options

Four ways to go on Afghanistan:

One appears to be a selective deployment, providing coverage for key cities, towns and villages.
I'd expect the others to range from a full escalation of troops to 40,000 or more, to a greater presence of NATO, or a phased removal of troops for departure from Afghanistan.

I wonder if there's any issues of separation of church and state in this issue. I doubt it but I'd expect a defense based, in part, on the latter.
Correction: make that four:

Did anyone else catch Bush on stage the other day with Laura in the background? The guy looked liked a comedian who was doing a parody of Bush! It was THAT bad! And you guys know who you are for helping to put HIM into the White House (TWICE!) It's no wonder why you often find yourselves posting only among each other...

I hope you don't rely upon the mainstream media to get all of your medical information. If one actually bothered to read the actual article that was published in the Archives of Surgery in October 2008, one would see that no cause-and-effect relationship between lack of insurance and mortality rates was actually established. For starters, the cohort of uninsured patients were more likely to sustain more traumatic injuries, esp. higher rates of penetrating trauma. So, it's not really surprising that these patients were more likely to die. Next time, read the original article rather than than just the distilled and spun version before you try to use it to make a point.
The only one who is spinning anything here is you...

I don't think anyone ever said that NONE of the stimulus money was being put to good use. In this particular example, it sounds as if the money may have been wisely spent (which still doesn't make up for the BILLIONS that have been wasted in other areas of the country). Still, at a cost to the taxpayers of approx. $50,000 per job saved in Castaic, CA, this won't keep these people employed forever. Do we need to spend another $800 billion next year so that these people will still have their jobs?
I don't know that we would have to spend another 800 billion if the economy continues to improve due to the stimulus program we already have. I suppose you'd have to ask the people in Castaic whose jobs were saved if it's worth it or not. I don't think we should have spent a trillion plus "saving Iraq" but I don't see much press given to that amount in Fox news.
