I certainly am not surprised, hypocrisy and holier-than-thou politicization of a crisis knows no party boundaries.  How many dead do you reckon these celebrations cause?  Those dead are on Biden, I guess - if that is the way the game is to be played.  Sturgis DC.

it reveals intense joy a lot more than hypocrisy, at least for the people celebrating. A lot of people will die as a result, and it is tragic
Hi Russ:

I don't buy that.  Not at all.  I think that the revelers in NYC, DC and elsewhere think they are immortal, same as the revelers at a Trump rally or in Sturgis.  The street partiers are more than happy to shake fingers during the Trump rallies, but there was never any sincerity when they scolded Republicans, just political opportunism and virtue signaling, the scourge of our times.

My guess is that folks who actually take the pandemic seriously were not taking to the streets.  I know two young folks in AOC's district who hate Trump with a passion.  They did not take to the streets, because they are genuinely concerned about the pandemic.

That is the issue isn't it.  It would probably be a first time that new voters, and the youth voters showed up for a run off election.  I am nervous - I'll admit that.  The Georgia republicans better show up in mass.

But for the fact that I caught myself and thought “what the hell are you doing? Do you want to die?” I nearly did. I’m almost 60 years old. You can’t possibly expect people in their 20s and 30s to have the same restraint as me under these circumstances.
I understand your point.  I even agree.

But this sort of reasoning was absent from the media coverage of the Trump rallies.  This sort of reasoning is absent from the Facebook pages of all those young democrats who so loudly despise republicans.  This sort of reasoning is exactly why I have not been blaming Trump for the US pandemic response.  (You on the other hand...)

I don't think you can have it both ways Russ.  It is now more obvious to me than ever that the death total in the US would be the same whether Trump or Biden had been in charge in January of 2020.  This is the USA.  We are free to do stupid shit if we want to, and we often do.

Hi Jim:

That is so scary.  I hope he turns the corner today and has a quick improvement.

Who is the Pollyanna now?  Biden discouraged it, and the press vilified it, until it was inconvenient or unnecessary to do so.  I'm serious.  Biden discouraged gatherings before the election first and foremost because it was politically opportunistic to do so.  Trump encouraged rallies because he correctly read the mood of his supporters.  I believe the actual health implications of the candidates' positions on rallies and gatherings were an afterthought in each case.

It's Perdue.  Normally, I wouldn't bother with something minor like that - but this is one Boilermaker who is not going to stand by and let the alma-matter's name be confused with some chicken barron!!   angry

I don't know the first think about him, but if he stands between Biden and a packed Supreme Court, I don't care if he is Lester Maddox reincarnate.

Of course, Biden is going to encourage mask wearing and social distancing, probably starting today.  He'll have the support of the press, and maybe it will make a difference, maybe not.  Last night was a glimpse through the façade though.  They'll button up the façade quickly enough.

Channeling Rich again, but be on the lookout for a lot less coverage of the pandemic in the press, no matter what the pandemic is actually doing.

I LOL every time you say that, thinking of the poster meme Russ posted the other day.  Kind of a mix between General Sherman and Willem Dafoe.  I hope you saw it.
