But we do have legal remedies.  If it comes to it, the capital police or the national guard will seize him and toss him to the street.  Do you think there is any risk at all of a coup when Trump does not have the support of the legislature, the Court or the military?

As Patrick so brilliantly said, Trump's actions at this point are merely darkening the stain on his administration and on his person.  There is no meaningful threat to the union.

On a calmer note, having been forced to ally with Democrats, I do see issues that they have complained about for years in a different light, with Trump giving a major assist. Take "voter suppression" for example. I always thought it was just whining on the left when this issue is presented, but there are greater impediments to vote for many that are traditionally on the left, those that are poor and or living on larger metro areas. How can you expect a low-wage earner that is basically disposable to his or her employer to take off 8 hours to vote? These problems do not really exist to the same degree in the suburbs. I don't want to overstate this, but there is definitely some merit to their argument. It seems irrefutable that the GOP wants to make it harder to vote for poor people as this demo skews left. Do we want democracy or not?
We want democracy.  8 hour lines are just as onerous as a literacy test or a poll tax.  There is no reason for an 8 hour line anywhere, but many of the genuine shit shows are in the large urban areas, so voter suppression would not seem to be the motivation.   More like general bureaucratic incompetence.

As a minor side point, you yourself questioned whether Colorado's system of automatically mailing out a ballot to all registered voters makes it "too easy."  I'm not sure what I think about that issue.  I think that people should vote of course, but I would like to think they take the time to think about what they are doing.  I have a lot of faith in people of all types.  I think that most Coloradans take the process quite seriously when they sit down with their ballots, the newsprint issues guides, and the recommendations of their favorite pundits.  (My ballot in Denver County was 6 big pages!)

Yes, but look at the news in general.  Look at this number:  29,326.27  You know what that number is.  Does that number reflect a consensus that we are on the verge of a coup?

Ok, I understand your point.  In a dark moment, I might consider the argument that the US is in decay.  If we are in decay, the slope of the decay curve does not need to be a linear progression from our highest point as a nation to the eventual collapse of the union.  On the contrary, the slope of the decay curve can slow down, accelerate, reverse for a while and so on.  But, if the US does eventually collapse* the historians of the time can look back at the decay curve and observe that the discord of the last several years and Trump's current efforts to exacerbate the discord were a period of accelerated decay.

*  Being an optimist, I think it is unlikely that the US will collapse.  Nothing lasts forever though.  I am optimistic that the US and our brother democracies of the world will evolve into something better for the humanity of the time, eventually.   No guarantee that the transition is smooth, easy or painless though.

S Dakota Covid Trumptoids Refuse To Believe They Have Covid As They're dying From It...

Articles like this bug me Rod.  The first paragraph:

"A South Dakota motorcycle rally attended by nearly half a million people earlier this year resulted in at least 86 cases of COVID-19 among residents of Minnesota, including one death, according to a report released Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."

That's it?  86 cases and 1 death in neighboring state MN?  Not exactly supportive of the argument that Sturgis was a deadly superspreader event of unprecedented size.  Personally, as I've mentioned many times, I think Sturgis was a big mistake for the attendees and community this year.  Even so, that article is pretty pathetic.

Hi Rod:

I can pretty much guarantee it is not Trumptoids.  These fanatics are your people Rod.  Californians.  I've been to In-N-Out several times in California and Vegas.  It's fine, but my partners who grew up or went to school in California literally swear by it.  Going to In-N-Out is like a religious experience for them.   It might be the thing they miss most about California.  They sure don't miss the taxes!

Anyway, Colorado is swarming with well-heeled lefty refugees from California.  I'd bet a "Double Monster Style"  (I think I have that right) that the In-N-Out line was chock full of them.

His heart is strong but the lack of oxygen and the damage to his lungs has taken its toll and the doctors now have little hope of his survival. The kicker of this f’ing disease is he’s dying all alone. I just want to thank all the f’ing people, including the f’ing president who had the f’ing disease, for not taking the virus seriously enough. Trump had every opportunity to change the course of this epidemic and chose not to. To hell with him and all of the Covid deniers.
Jim;

I'm very sorry to hear this, Jim

No doubt, but they're not the CA refugees flooding our great state, driving up real estate prices and so on.  Not that I mind that, but still.

I am hesitant to post this pic but it is kind of funny. Remember that it was 1979 and cut off shorts were, well, short. Keith and a I were a real Mutt and Jeff, I’m 5’6 and he’s 6’6. We were loading up the raft for a float down the Salt River. In July. In the desert. It was hot. Anyways, thanks again.
Hi Jim:

My condolences.  That is a great picture to remember Keith by!  You guys were way ahead of your time, rafting the Salt in 1979!  My family did a three day trip there about 7 or 8 years ago - it was sublime.  Rafting from the high pinyon pines down into the saguaro cactus forest is something I'll never forget.  May your friend rest in peace.
