Good to hear you got to see a bit of it Larry. I specifically took the morning off in hopes that it would be clear. I haven't taken a day off in quite a while (well, since I've worked there 2 years) and figured this would be OK smile

I setup at a metro park and had about 20 morning walkers stop by, 10 of them stayed the entire time. On gal even went and got donuts for us!!

Great picture Brian, nice and clear for how "close" you are. I tried zooming in a bit, but it as nearly 80* in the morning and the haze was making it impossible to focus.

Losmandy products are usually considered to be among the best. They are machined nicely and are hefty. I know a few people with rails from www.scopestuff.com and they seem happy with them too.

ETX 105

I loved my ETX90, with and without the Autostar. Why Meade doesn't make a "Platinum" version or whatever that has a real mount (similar to the Questar) and charge double for it I don't know. I'd buy a 105mm Mak with a good solid mount and Autostar as my "easy to pack away and take" scope. My quick look scope will still be my ED80 on a homemade alt-az mount though wink

I'm going to agree and say that the transparency of the sky was worse. If it was humid, you may have been looking through some nasty air.

Steve, I tested both before making a decision (CR2/4 vs Feathertouch) and although I preferred the Feathertouch the CR2/4 was very nice. The CR2 is cheaper and lighter than the Feathertouch and has a nice feel to it. The CR4 is a bit more expensive, but if you use filters a lot that swing is wonderful (I had a chance to use the CR4 with a 2" OIII filter... heaven). The Feathertouch has more of a "responsive" feel to it whereas the Moonlight had a very light touch. I always felt as if I was overshooting, but both focusers are great products.

Why ratings disappear?

It could be because they were booted, or maybe they became a vendor? I had a few from various people who then became vendors and the rating disappeared. But don't you think 81 or 84 5* ratings show you are trustworthy?

Using a Pronto @ F23?

I used a 5x Powermate and a 8mm super plossl at a star party once on a late rising moon (20% illuminated or so). There is a reason that the Pronto is revered wink The detail on the moon with that tiny scope was incredible, the image was a bit dim for planets at that magnification but the optics held fine. I think the only hurdle you'd have is image brightness (and of course seeing, but that isn't related to the scope).

OTOH, I have an Orion ED80 now, and it performs admirably on the planets also.

Another Look at SN 2004et, 2004/10/4 UT

I saw NGC 6946 along with SN 2004et in a 8" LX200 using a 14mm Meade UWA eyepiece with no problems from a dark sky site in Ohio. The galaxy is a bit tough due to low surface brightness, but if you tap on the tripod a bit to make the view shake, the galax sorta "pops" out at your from the movement. The SN is easy to identify if you find the small triangle of stars to the upper right (in a SCT) of it.
