31mm Nagler vs. 21mm Ethos

Posted By Greg Shaffer

Pretty drastic jump from 35mm to 21mm when thinking as a replacement.....Not sure I would view it as a replacement.

I am thinking of trading in my 35mm Panoptic, I own several Naglers from 22, 19, 12, 9 and 4.8. Of course I use my Panoptic the most, wide field in my LX200 10".
My question and I am looking for feedback is, is it worth spending 2 - 300 more for the 21mm ethos than a 31mm Nagler as a replacement for the 35mm Panoptic?

Parallax mount with Gemini

Posted By Greg Shaffer

Hi Charles

A semi educated guess here.....the HD-150 uses 359:1 byers gears on both axis correct? The G11 uses 359:1 gears also doesnt it? The Byers you have has the losmandy 492 stepper system already installed on it correct?

As far as I know those digital drive 492 stepper systems were setup for either the G11 or the G8.....I would venture yours is for a G11. Since both the G11 and the HD-150 use the same ratio drive gearing it stands to reason the only thing you will need to do is swap the motors and tell the gemini you have it installed on a G11 which the Gemini has all those settings in it already and is a simple one step pick option in the menu.

account lost, support ???

Posted By Greg Shaffer

Reading between the lines here.....it sounds like you are saying you have been here for 10 years buying and selling quite a bit and have never contributed anything towards its operation.

I dont buy this "I assumed Anacortes picked up the bills".....Not with the volume of announcements placed every week begging for support. I am betting your accnt was deleted as a result.

You say you now magically understand and wish to support.....I would say the best tack to take now is do so with your new accnt and chalk it up to lessons learned.... smile

Hello Astromart friends,

My Astromart account vanished last week. This has been puzzling; I have not done any of the offenses listed on the Terms Of Use agreement. I had a history of some 10 years of happy exchanges and over a hundred 5 star ratings, now lost. All of the ratings that I left for others have also vanished. I had one current ad (5 inch Maksutov) and lots of archived ads, all gone now.

A telescope that I purchased from outside the USA a couple of months ago has gotten lost. I trust the seller to do the right thing, and he seems to be trying to track its shipment. If this doesn’t happen, I may not be able to warn you with a bad rating about him.

I have averaged about one transaction per month through Astromart, sporadically, more purchases than sales. This seems pretty modest, but still a valuable service, an aid to my hobby and others who make and sell the equipment that I acquire or dispose of. I assumed that the whole system was supported by Anacortes and a few small manufacturers plus some committed enthusiasts. I thought that telling my friends about Anacortes’ effective, generous service was a form of support. I did not mind paying the $12 to get a new account. If they had required an annual fee in that range, or made a clear point about everyone needing to contribute, not just the most active, those who post lots of ads and like to see their names in colored lights, that would have been OK with me. Was I ditched for using a free service once too often? Who knows?

I wrote to Herb York when my attempts to log in failed. He directed me to the Administrator of AstroMart LLC. The only word that I got from there was “We see no account for you If you would like one you will need to sign up for a new account”. Multiple requests to Herb, Administrator, and Support got no further response. Presumably the new account invitation is evidence that I did not break any rules, even unknowingly. I have also asked the Administrator if I could have my old ratings restored to my new account (I know of one user who got this after being dumped). No reply.

At first, I thought that deleting some cookies from my computer (while sorting out a connection problem) might have interfered with signing in, but surely this would not terminate an account. It has not caused problems with any other accounts (ebay, Amazon, etc.). If the mysterious Administrator terminated my account, why? If not, who did? All of these inquiries seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

Here is a pertinent line from the ASTROMART TERMS OF USE AGREEMENT... “19.3... If you are honest, sincere and civil with your posts, Astromart expects that you will never have to worry about termination.”

This suggests an original intent to treat users with some respect and fairness. If that cannot be done with existing funding and personnel arrangements, changes should be made. I would rather be charged for a good functional Astromart that have a broken one for free.

sorry if this sounds brainless

Just as Floyd suggested......or you can post it ONCE every day if you like and still be within the TOS.....You just cant post it twice in the same day.

I did try to find the answer by reading where I could...

After a classified runs and drops off the list due to ageing, is there an easy way to repost it? I sometimes see an ad that says 'repost'. I understand that multiple posts for same thing are undesired - and am not wanting to do a multiple post. Just wanting to get it some face time again. Really I'm not that active here and for first time some items didn't get snapped up, so it's never been a question before.

Thanks for advice, if obvious please forgive my numb skull - clear skies smile
