OWS started in mid-september, about the same time this committee started to meet. I think the Community Organizer In Chief and his minions are a lot more tied to this group than they admit, although they were not at all reluctant to support this group. Run these pinko, commie, bastards out of DC next November.

Any sane person who would take the trouble to graph out federal spending over the past 5 years will easily see where the problem is. Try it.

This is really just common sense, but it certainly is the exact opposite of how the federal government deals with poverty.

I didn't see the prayer line forum and hope it is ok to post this on here, Hi everybody, I just lost the sweetest person near to me. My mother just passed away Monday night. She went so gently while my dad was feeding her. He didn't gasp for breath or have any muscle contractions or spasms at all. It was like she left. Yesterday was my parents 56th wedding anniversary and my dad still bought her some anniversary flower's, the card saying to his baby. They were so close as it should be but dad had her so spoiled like child. She had began regressing in her mind and as long as dad treated her like a small child they were both happy. It's really hard on all of us, but my dad is taking it so bad. He doesn't want to be here any longer. The sound of sobbing is so sad. Anyone that will please say a prayer for my dad, the man that taught me how to be a man so long ago.

Some times it is my own doing. I get too pissed at a couple of "regulars" that I either disagree with or I find personally repugnant or the one that always gets me really pissed - I won't support anymore unless you do what I want you to do - I will sue you - I will not by from ATWB because you said thus and so....

Well screw that - I may still take a forum down from time to time for whatever reason I want - I own them - but I will not be threatened to silence.

I needed to take a few days to reflect and have decided that my views and beliefs are as valid as any and reserve the right to voice them. If you don't want to support Astromart because you disagree then fine - I don't care. If you do agree then get your damn check book out.

Thank you and let the 1st amendment begin again.

This is Christopher Hitchens final article, published Dec 7 of this year. He is an excellent writer and conveys to a degree possible the horror of dying of cancer. I felt very sad for him reading this article. Aside from the physical pain of his treatment and disease, there is a dark hopelessness that permeates this article in that the end for him was truly the end in his mind. This is not only a commentary on the lost IMO, but the problem of advancements in medical science that are basically torture and for little real purpose. Prolonging his life in the manner in which it was seems puzzling at best and maybe even inhumane at worst. Only Chris knows that for certain. He clearly was not a man at peace.

I've come close to death twice so far. Both times, I was truly excited to realize that it would not be long before I would be in the presence of the Lord. This did not always comfort me during times of great physical pain, but I do know that my joy permeated most of my communication at the time.

You have no idea what a comfort it was to know with confidence that one statement i told my wife before going into open-heart surgery was true "I do love you so, and I'm ready, either way. No matter what, I'll see you soon." Those same thoughts were expressed to God Himself shortly after that.

To Rob, David and many other people, the mere thought that situational context matters when making an ethical determination is equated with moral weakness and more importantly, situational ethics are seen as the denial of a divine and immutable ethical authority. That's really the crux for many folks: how can context matter in ethics, if we accept a Divinely ordained black and white distinction between right and wrong?

Nonetheless, consider one of God's most important commandments: Thou Shalt Not Kill.

On its face, this is not an ambiguous statement. No exceptions are included. Even so, ethicists from the dawn of time have noted situational exceptions to the above commandment; self defense is a good example.

The self-defense exception is so universally accepted that those who deny that they engage in situational ethics will simply ignore the situational context of self defense and illogically claim that they are not being situational at all!

A self-defense exception is not what the Commandment says though.
