I guess that was a little vague... So, I expect you personally to deliver Perdue and Loeffler to the Senate!  Do whatever it takes.  All fans of divided government are counting on you Greg!

All in the mix for sure.  I do think the transition being started had a big impact.  Trump's approval of the transition process (if that is what it took) was a bit overdue.

I don't care if he/she is Satan and Hitler combined, so long as he/she stands between Biden, Schumer, and any Supreme Court packing scheme.  I was reassured that Joe Manchin came out the other day and said that he would not support court packing or eliminating the filibuster, so court packing might be DOA even if the Rs lose in Georgia, but I hate to have all of this hinge on one man's vote.

No he hasn't.  Court packing has a specific definition and has had that definition since FDR's time.  I don't want anyone to expand the Supreme Court's size if you insist on being pedantic.

As far as McConnell filling all those vacancies goes, someone famous once said "elections have consequences."  Filling vacancies is not court packing and you could hardly expect McConnell to nominate a bunch of liberal judges.  At the end of the day, Trump and McConnell have gotten a lot of judges confirmed, but it has not been an extraordinary amount, compared to previous administrations.

I think it is interesting that the Ds have historically put all of their eggs in the "President" basket.  Are D's actually monarchists at heart?

PS after reading your comments , I see the ends justifies the means...
Usually when one says "the ends justify the means" in a negative or pejorative sense he is talking about folks who ignore or break the rules to achieve their ends.

In this instance McConnell and Trump were duly elected, and they confirmed judges by the rules.  No reason for you to like the outcome of course.

On the other hand, those who argue for court packing want to discard the rules and in my opinion destroy the best branch of the government to achieve a short-term political win.  If you are looking for a legitimate group to label as the "ends justify the means" crowd, look no further than the court packers.

And yes, I am extremely happy to have thwarted the court packer crowd in this election, using traditional, legal and perfectly normal means.

That was obviously exaggeration - as I assume you knew.  Hitler is dead and Satan has bigger things to do than run for Senate in Georgia.

These issues are important too.  Personally, I think that any changes should be cautious, well reasoned, and broadly supported.  This is another reason I am a big fan of divided government.

Hi Greg:

Awesome!  One of my buddies has been cajoling me to get a Traeger.  The RecTeq looks fantastic.  I love buying the best from locally run, smaller, direct to consumer companies.  I see one of these in my future, maybe next spring...  Now, to decide between a RT-700 or the smaller RT-590.  Usually I cook for two.  Regularly I cook for 4.   Once or twice a year I cooks for 6-8.  Would not typically grill for more than that 8.  Have you seen both of the RT700 and RT590 in action?  Which would you favor?

Covid-19 data and graphs

Posted By James Brown

Rich challenged for me to "post some graphs" in another thread.  That got me to reminiscing about this thread, one of my favorites.  The first few pages are interesting reading from a historical perspective.

For example, early in this long thread we were discussing Russ's predictions, which now seem entirely too restrained.  Rich stated:

"I said that his assertions that we'd see 1,000,000 confirmed cases was not accurate.  In fact, I posted that he was off by a factor of more than 5, which I've been guessing all along would be the case.

Let me tell you something counselor.

You're an intellectual coward and I challenged you to a steak dinner to see whose guesses would be more accurate since we are ALL doing nothing but guessing at this point."

One million confirmed cases... how quaint.  The USA is presently at 14.6 million confirmed cases with 50 or 60k new ones every day.

Keep your well-washed and socially-isolated fingers crossed!  I read somewhere that US participation in the aggressive social distancing/closure and other mitigation efforts was close to 90%  This is making a huge difference in the progression of this disease and will save countless lives.

It wasn't just Rich who was as wrong as can be.  Consider my naïve post from early April above.  the graph supporting that post is reproduced at the top in the image below.  It is also the portion in the red box of the lower chart, from today.  "I think we are very close to or at the peak number of infections per day"  Wow, that was spectacularly wrong...
