WikiLeaks/Embassy Cable/Not Impressed:Again

Posted By Rod Kaufman

It seems WikiLeaks discovered a secret British Embassy cable disclosing the rather disturbing results of a poll of Muslim students at British universities. The results speak for themselves:

Again, it's not getting any better...

US Must Provide Lawyers

Posted By Rod Kaufman

To incapacitated immigrants, illegal or otherwise:

So if some incapacitated illegal unwittingly stumbles across the border, we're now obligated to provide him with a tax-payer funded attorney to represent his views even if the illegal doesn't understand them in the first place? :S

Pony Up To The Axeman

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Danish police just thwarted a radical extremist Islamic militant terrorist attack. (Is that description politically correct enough for those who might otherwise be offended by referencing a terrorist attack to Islam?) So what exactly did these radical extremist Islamic militants have on their minds? Revenge for a political cartoon referencing Mohamed, published SIX YEARS AGO.
And what exactly did they plan to do? Machine gun as many people as they could who worked at the newspaper in which the cartoon appeared.
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-denmark-arrests-20101230,0,4330116.story
Note that the article states security officials in the above incident are alarmed over the "rising threat" posed by radical extremist Islamic militants. Well, I'm glad an alarm went off somewhere.
As it happens, and with relatively little news coverage, and I mean little coverage(I had to hunt for it on the BBC and elsewhere), Scotland Yard and associates thwarted another plot to:
1. Bomb Big Ben
2. Level the American Embassy in London
3. Take out primary financial targets
4. And more.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101222/ap_on_re_eu/eu_britain_terror_arrests
Now, with an agenda like that, you'd think it might be newsworthy.
But what really sticks in my craw is the fact that British authorities mistakenly arrested some Islamic adherents awhile ago and it caused such an uproar in what passes for journalism in Britain these days that to hear some of the commentators tell it, you would have thought the government should have been removed(along with the authorities)and another election held over the incident! But now, when we've got aforementioned plot thwarted by the same authorities, not a peep is heard. I suspect they're hoping for some judge or magistrate to invalidate an arrest on some technicality so they can resurrect the same scenario again...

Cutting At The Pentagon

Posted By Rod Kaufman

So this ex-Reagan defense official thinks he can slash a trillion from the Pentagon's budget:
http://money.cnn.com/2011/01/05/news/economy/lawrence_korb_defense_spending/index.htm?cnn=yes&hpt=Sbin
Hmm, I don't know if China is going to be cutting any of theirs. Ditto for North Korea. But it does appear he has some reasonable suggestions. I just don't hear any of the tea party types going ape over this guy's suggestions. OTH, IF what he says is correct, we wouldn't have to worry as much about social security and medicare cuts, now would we?

Talk show host are just entertainers

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Floyd,
Nicely stated, and I've read in this forum more than once in the past that the AM is here for purposes of entertainment. But, as you have seen, it can get ugly here very quickly and some of the attacks are rather personal in nature and in my opinion constitute TOS violations(examples: name calling of posters such as idiots, requiring psychiatric help, etc). So if it can become very heated here very quickly you can imagine what might happen when millions of people who might not understand what they're hearing is for purposes of entertainment and take something from one of the talk show hosts and then run with it.
Yikes!
