A Nice Gesture

Posted By Rod Kaufman

This reminds me of how the country seemed to come together after 9/11. At that time, the country rallied around its president, baseball teams met and shook hands before the game and so forth.
This is a class act:

A Palin Free Day?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Can we have, for once, a Palin free day, across all forums?
I mean I have never in my life seen an ex-vice presidential candidate with CONSTANT media attention. Most ex-presidential candidates of a failed ticket are forgotten. But here's one that loses, resigns her governorship, and yet remains some sort of hero to her base. CNN has a daily spattering of something to the effect of "Palin statement raises eyebrows" or "Palin scares GOP" or Palin infuriates Democrats, etc. I mean it's every single day. Do they want to put a spot light on her so they can eventually be governed by her?
So, I'd like to declare Saturday January 15 a Palin free day on all AM forums, across the board.
Is that too much to ask?...

AZ Gun Laws/Part 2

Posted By Rod Kaufman

So if there were an armed citizen at the time of the shootings, things would have been different?
Yeah, they would have been worse because the citizen would have shot the wrong guy:

So Who's Responsible?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

An 8 year old boy is given an uzi at a gun range that had been dubbed "an educational event" and blows part of his head off when the kick from the weapon moves the muzzle upward. The gun show organizer of the "educational event" has been acquitted:

So who's responsible for this kid's death?
And a 14 year takes his birthday rifle and kills family:

The kid has no history of violent behavior or mental illness. Trial as an adult?

Justice Scalia and the Tea Party People

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Well, since I've been clouded-out from doing my eyepiece test this Saturday evening, I took a gander at the CNN website, and what do I find? Justice Scalia is going find time from his "busy schedule" to meet with members of the Tea Party caucus, chaired by such notables as a Republican from Utah world and associates.
I gotta agree with with the professor of law from George Washington University that Scalia is showing "exceedingly poor judgment" and his appearance suggests an "alliance between conservative members of the court and conservative members of congress." Even if the latter isn't really the case, the mere appearance of impropriety is cause for concern, no matter which supreme court justice appears with a particular congressional caucus. I don't think the supreme court justices ought to make such appearances.
Another Republican notes justice Scalia has an "originalist" approach to constitutional interpretation, whatever that is...

Now why didn't that make its way into Bush's memoirs, entitled, "Decision Points"?

AZ/14th Amendment

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Well, it appears Arizona lawmakers interpret the 14th amendment from an "originalist" point of view. To wit: ..."it's irresponsible and foolish to bestow citizenship based upon one's GPS location at birth." Well, what do you base it upon? It appears the AZ lawmakers interpret the 14th amendment to mean those people born in the US and "subject to the jurisdiction" of this country which, they claim, doesn't include illegal immigrants. Interesting take on it but it'll be thrown out of court.
