Sunspots on October 31, 2004

Hi all,

I had interesting seeing yesterday while I was imaging the sun. For a while it was only average, then for a while it really settled down nicely. After a short while, it went downhill. Luckily I managed to get some decent images. The image of AR693 turned out really well, even at F/31 on the ED100!! Wish I could bottle that seeing!!

Hi all,

I discovered that there are not one but TWO naked eye groups on the Sun right now. Naturally I had to give them my best shot. Seeing was decent and the images are pretty nice. For group 693 I processed it twice with two reference frames, one on the left side and one on the right, then I chopped and created a mosiac. It looks better than before.

Eyepiece

Posted By Paul Maxson

Has anyone seen or tried the new Meade Series 5000 eyepieces yet? I'm thinking about getting about a 9mm or so eyepiece for the C925 and ED100 but don't really want to pay $200 or so if I don't need to for an eyepiece to use for the planets.

Thanks!!

Hi all,

Here are images of the two large groups currently on the sun. I may have overprocessed AR696 a bit, but it has so much detail in it, there could be some value.

Got the C925 back yesterday, Celestron cleaned, collimated and rematched the optics...all at no cost to me. Of course, when they sent the scope back, they included clouds, so I can't test it out yet...

Hi all,

It is a warm but very windy day today. Seeing was not very good, but I managed to get images of the two large sunspot groups.

C925 experience with Celestron

Posted By Paul Maxson

I thought I'd mention the experience I just had with Celestron Tech Support with my C925. The images in the scope have been mushy from day one. Finally after 4 months owning the scope I decided to contact Celestron to see if they would test it. They quoted $100 plus shipping to clean and collimate the scope. I sent it off on a Thursday morning via UPS. I resigned myself that I wouldn't hear anything for at least a couple of months. Much to my surprise, less than 2 weeks later, the UPS truck delivered the scope back to me. The next day I got an invoice from Celestron that said that they "cleaned, collimated and re-matched" the optics. Total charge to me... $0.00!! Of course it has been cloudy and rainy since the scope came back so I haven't had it under the stars yet, but if they got that scope to the standard of a C925, I'd have to say that I am pleasantly pleased with everything.
