One of my best friends is Nugents first cousin and he was as big of a jerk back in the late 60's and 70's as he is now and I don't believe for a minute he's never done drugs or never has drunk alcohol. So, he's full of BS up to his ears.

In 1980-83 me and some buddies used to fire up before home football games by playing "Great White Buffalo" from Ted's Double Live Gonzo! album. We played it loud. Really loud. Drinking was certainly involved, even though it was pretty early in the day. We had a few songs we played superstitiously before every home football game. Great White Buffalo was key... Kamikaze shots, lots of beer. And maybe a Purdue win!

Context is everything! I can't say I actually "listened" to Nugent. He was loud and Great White Buffalo was part of the pre-game ritual. The first song we played each and every gameday morning was "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO - because of the opening spoken line, "today's forecast calls for blue sky!...."
It was game day after all.
Also, that song has a very danceable beat! Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell" was featured prominently, along with an eclectic mix of high-energy songs you can picture drunken or hung-over frat boys circa 1982 bopping around to while singing into beer bottles like microphones! It was a blast. By about 10:30 or so, we were primed to walk over to the stadium with a half-pint in our pockets to mix with the stadium cokes. It's amazing everyone lived. I still text with a lot of those guys when Purdue has a football or basketball game on TV. Engineers, doctors and lawyers mostly. Times were different on campus in the early 80s.

Everything I see says real GDP and current dollar GDP are up, as are personal income and savings. My 401K is doing gangbusters. I'm an investor in a brewery/restaurant and business is taking off like crazy - it looks like it's going to do a lot better than just survive the pandemic. Not sure about other towns, but here in SD everyone is working and businesses are having a difficult time finding staff right now.
