Death Valley over Presidents Day weekend

Posted By Jim Carpenter

All three are nice shots, Jerry. I like the first one (Salt Flats) the best. Great DOF -- what camera and lens were you using? I've never been to Death Valley, but this area looks a lot like the Bonneville salt flats in Utah.

Shadows

Here's another shot taken at the same time and place, but with a much simpler shadow pattern; also converted to B&W.

Laguna Beach Wildlife

Great collage, Jerry -- a nice way to display the memories of a weekend at the beach. And those middle schoolers certainly are wildlife to a geezer like me ;-)

Hawaii from a Helicopter

Posted By Jim Carpenter

Great shots, Harry. These bring back fond memories of our helicopter tour of Kauai. Unfortunately, the only camera I had with me at the time was a basic Nikon Coolpix without image stabilization or other user controls to adjust ISO or shutter speed, so most of my shots were blurred (bummer!).

FYI, if anyone else is thinking about taking photos from a Kauai helicopter flight, I'd recommend recommend Inter-Island Helicopters . They fly small Hughes 500 choppers, and take the doors off so you don't have to deal with glare from the glass (not for the faint of heart, but you are securely strapped in). They fly out of Port Allen, on the south side of the island. Get a seat on the right side for best photo ops since the helicopters all fly clockwise around the island. That puts you facing the shore when you fly by the Na'Pali coastline.

(I have no connection to Inter-Island Helicopters -- just a happy customer)

El Capitan at Sunset

Fantastic shot, Ivan. Good job on the stitching. I'm sure you resized for posting here and I can only imagine what it looks like at full size and resolution. If it were my image I'd print it on canvas about four feet long and hang it on the most prominent wall in the house. Thanks for posting.

Anole in the rock garden

Nice image, Ron. We used to have these little guys all over the yard when we lived in San Antonio, but they don't survive here in Colorado -- at least not in the wild.

Yosemite Falls

Excellent shot, Ivan -- love the reflection. Just for fun, you should try a trick someone suggested to me once: Using Photoshop or similar processing software, invert the image, then crop out the "real" part. What's left (the reflected image only) looks like an impressionistic painting, especially if you add a slight touch of the Brush Stroke filter. This works best if there is a very slight ripple on the surface of the water.
