Probably true Jim, that covidiots are everywhere, but there is no way the enormous MI spike is simply FL vacation based.  People in Indiana and other midwestern states also flock to Florida, but they are not having spikes anywhere near the magnitude of MI.  Something else is up in MI.

Florida also leads in new case variants.
The stock market is dumping even though corporate earnings are escalating. Why? Covid numbers are increasing! Thank you Ron Desantis and all the other antimaskers and anti vaccers on Fox...
Ahh - Rod, the voice of "reason."  I sure hope you don't trade on your wild speculations.  The stock market set an all time record on Friday.  All time high.  This Friday, the 16th.  Capice?  It is typical for traders to take profit after the market charts a new high.

Do you realize that the markets are up about 180% from last March?  I hope you bought the low.

In 1980-83 me and some buddies used to fire up before home football games by playing "Great White Buffalo" from Ted's Double Live Gonzo! album.  We played it loud.  Really loud.  Drinking was certainly involved, even though it was pretty early in the day.  We had a few songs we played superstitiously before every home football game.  Great White Buffalo was key...  Kamikaze shots, lots of beer.  And maybe a Purdue win!  cool

Context is everything!  I can't say I actually "listened" to Nugent grin.  He was loud and Great White Buffalo was part of the pre-game ritual.  The first song we played each and every gameday morning was "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO - because of the opening spoken line, "today's forecast calls for blue sky!...."

It was game day after all.

Also, that song has a very danceable beat!  Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell" was featured prominently, along with an eclectic mix of high-energy songs you can picture drunken or hung-over frat boys circa 1982 bopping around to while singing into beer bottles like microphones!  It was a blast.  By about 10:30 or so, we were primed to walk over to the stadium with a half-pint in our pockets to mix with the stadium cokes.  It's amazing everyone lived.  I still text with a lot of those guys when Purdue has a football or basketball game on TV.  Engineers, doctors and lawyers mostly.  Times were different on campus in the early 80s.

I didn't know that.  I have absolutely not followed Ted's career though.

I was in college circa 82 too, but I had already done a stint in the Navy so I was a little older (too old for a frat, for sure).  Not to say we didn't misbehave every chance we got. I won't even mention the shenanigans us young Navy guys got into. Suffice to say it involved airplanes equipped with torpedo bays loaded with toilet paper. Oh, and Coast Guard lighthouses. And stray goats on airfields.
I can only imagine!  angel

Now, for some reality. Jim Brown thinks he's happy now because the market had a good day after dumping two days in a row and with Dow futures now going south this evening, he may feel less happy on Thursday. We'll see. But, considering he'd be A LOT happier with the Dow at 35000 than he is now, it's safe to say he isn't as nearly as happy as he would be if that were reality...
In all seriousness Rod, the market has been doing incredibly well since last March and I am happy.  I'm happy at 34000 and I'll be thrilled at 35000.  I was not so happy last March at 19173.  shocked

I do think the market is overheated and it will correct.  I also think that pent-up consumer and travel demand is going to juice the market one of these days, contrary to my own opinion that the market is overheated.   Since I really don't know squat, I don't trade often.

The thing I find funny is your propensity to blame one or two-day market bumps and jitters on some Republican, DeSantis in this case.  This is something you've done for years and I always find it humorous, given the long-term trend.  A bounce occurring a day or two after you call out some Republican for tanking the market is entirely predictable - I ought to day trade contrary to your political analysis!  I don't have the cojones though...  Like you, I'm a buy and hold kind of trader.

And what reasons are your market pundits citing for todays carnage Rod?  (It's not Covid wink)

I know you know, but since it is all anti-R politics with you all the time, I doubt you'll mention it - at least not unless I goad you into an acknowledgement....
