Dow Set To Take another Dump

Republicans can't find the money for a stimulus package. So, here comes another recession on the horizon and as it rises, the market sinks. Half of America that has money in stocks like in 401ks just got screwed...
I'm not one to blame the president for market volatility.  But still, after a rough week in the markets, and with Trump out of office, who are the blamers gonna blame?

Hi Mel:

Yes.

Speaking of spending, did you happen to see the Astro-Physics 180mm f7 Herb is auctioning:  https://astromart.com/auctions/astromart-auctions/telescope-refractor/show/astro-physics-180-f7-perhaps-the-best-refractor-made-no-reserve

Over $23,000 and still a week and a half to go!  Yikes.  I know you've been looking for a nice 7" APO!  wink

Hi Mel:

I suppose - maybe a little higher...

I think you should buy it - I've already got one 180mm APO cool  You are right about the resale value though.  A-P isn't making any more of these...  Rod should chime in and remind us how much more we could see in a big Zambuto mirror for the same price, and I am sure he is right.  But still...  I really like my big refractor...

I guess I'm 1/3 retired - working my way toward full retirement on a three year plan.  Loving it too!

Those are beautiful kitchens Greg!

I'm not sure if my retirement will be a hard stop or just a long wind-down where I only work for my favorite clients.  "Old lawyers never retire, they just fade away..."  That sort of thing.

I used to think I'd fade away over a long period of time.  But my wife is a sales executive in tech, so when she retires in 3 or 4 years, it will be all or nothing.  She works around the clock.  But we both have our eyes on travel, and we both have really enjoyed being in the mountains together full time, thanks to the pandemic.  So now I'm thinking more of a hard stop.

"Paul Gray is a builder in the Wichita area. He claims that for every client concerned about lumber prices, eight more give him the green light to frame-up.
“It hasn’t turned away enough people to make a difference,” said Baalmann.
In fact, Gray has had record sales in the last few months."

Hi Rod:

Speaking of the media - did you catch the Federal Court decision where the judge dismissed a defamation suit against Rachel Maddow and MSNBC because no rational viewer could believe Rachel was presenting anything other than a complete partisan fabrication?  The judge even awarded attorney fees, I guess because it was so obvious to her that the Maddow show was pure hyperbole and BS.

I agree with the judge on this one.  No rational viewer could possibly believe anything presented on MSNBC.  Still, it is sad that MSNBC passes as a credible news source for some, including a few of my relatives.  So much for rational.

Can you picture the pre-trial strategy meetings for Maddow's lawyers?  "Charlie, how can we lose when we argue that MSNBC only presents opinion at best, but more often hyperbole bordering straight up BS!!"  To be fair, I think Fox may have pioneered this particular defense to media defamation suits.

That's world's apart from your statement of, "No rational viewer could possibly believe anything presented on MSNBC." That's just silly...
Maybe I exaggerated a little bit.  I did not say that Maddow was bought and paid for by the Kremlin though, did I?

It is weird that you have no problem recognizing the BS laid down by the personalities on Fox, but then you defend MSNBC and Maddow?  That is really weird.

Obviously that's not what I stated or alluded to in my reply to you.
Again, there's a world of difference between Maddow giving her take on an article published elsewhere and therefore obviously outside the reporting of MSNBC than there is by the nightly primetime presentation of conspiracy theories and misinformation presented by Fox "News" propagandists. Even outside their recognized opionators, and that's being generous since their base audience takes them at their word, Fox misstates the news. A prime example from today: Biden held a press conference for the expressed purpose of announcing the bipartisan deal on infrastructure. And anyone following Hannity or others on Fox knows that Biden is criticized for not being bipartisan. So, how does Fox news report on their website Biden's press conference for a bipartisan deal? They report it as , Bipartisan deal but Biden wants more, dealbreaker!? Again, the reason Biden went on National TV was to inform the nation of the bipartisan deal and Fox reports it otherwise...
No, it is what Maddow said about the plaintiff in the lawsuit.

Like I said, it is weird that you can not see the perfect correspondence between Fox pandering to their "true believer" core audience and MSNBC pandering to their "true believer" core audience.  There is only one reason I can think of for anyone not appreciating that these outlets are the same with their exaggerations, bias, spin and outright lies.  That reason would be that one is in fact a "true believer" of one sort or the other.  Twin sons of different mothers.

No doubt Fox is laying it on thick in 2021, since the Ds control the federal government.  But seriously Rod, were you in a coma from say 2016 to 2020?  Virtually nothing that MSNBC said about Trump or the Senate was free from spin, exaggeration, or outright lies.  If 1/2 of the crap MSNBC and their personalities spewed in 2016-2021 was even close to true, you and I would not be having this conversation, at least not in English.  Razve vy ne soglasny?

I hope you don't think I'm defending Fox.  I'm obviously not.  With respect to MSNBC, just keep drinking the Kool-Aid, Rod.  No worries at all. J
