The US House of Representatives on Tuesday failed to block an effort to oust Kevin McCarthy as speaker, a major blow to the Republican leader that paves the way for a historic vote on whether to remove him from the job.

McCarthy now faces the biggest challenge to his leadership to date. The fight over the speakership marks a major escalation in tensions for a House GOP conference that has been mired in infighting and could be thrown into further chaos if McCarthy is pushed out – just days after McCarthy successfully engineered a last-minute bipartisan effort to avert a government shutdown.

The House voted Tuesday afternoon on a motion to table – or block – an effort led by GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz to bring up what is known as a motion to vacate the chair – a rare procedural maneuver that can be used to force a vote to remove the speaker.

Because that vote failed, it is now expected that the House will vote later in the day on whether to remove McCarthy as speaker.

And now the judge has issued a gag order and Trump can not make any more comments about the judge's staff. He posted on his social media about the judge's clerk and insinuated she was Chuck Schumer's girlfriend. He has since removed the post.

This is what the judge actually said:

"This morning one of the defendants posted on social media account a disparaging untrue and personally identifying post about a member of my staff. Although I have since ordered the post deleted and apparently it was, it was also emailed out to millions of other recipients," the judge said in court.

"Personal attacks of any member of my court staff are unacceptable, inappropriate and I will not tolerate them," the judge said.

The judge then said all parties must not speak publicly about any members of the court staff.

"Consider this statement an order forbidding all parties from posting emailing or speaking publicly about any members of my staff,” Engoron said. “Failure to abide by this .. will result in serious sanctions."

And it appears Kevin is out as Speaker of the House.

If so, I wonder what the over/under will be on how many ballots until we get another one.

Then I realized they will probably support McCarthy or his reasonable replacement in exchange for Ukrainian war funding.   Easy peasy, just hardball politics.   This is the sort of tactic that makes the public hate Congress though….

Hi Jim, why in the world would the Ds support McCarthy when he has reneged on many of the issues he negotiated with them. They could not trust him. I guess it is the Ds fault that there are a few rogue R congressmen who can't be whipped to vote along party lines, huh? Yeah, blame the Ds.

I'd be interested in how many Rs voted for Nancy Pelosi?

But does he really have the time? He has at least three more upcoming trials in the next six months and his ongoing campaign for prez, but maybe they will make it a part time position since they will not be governing anyway.

Months after leaving the White House, former President Donald Trump allegedly discussed potentially sensitive information about U.S. nuclear submarines with a member of his Mar-a-Lago Club -- an Australian billionaire who then allegedly shared the information with scores of others, including more than a dozen foreign officials, several of his own employees, and a handful of journalists, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The potential disclosure was reported to special counsel Jack Smith's team as they investigated Trump's alleged hoarding of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, the sources told ABC News. The information could shed further light on Trump's handling of sensitive government secrets.

Prosecutors and FBI agents have at least twice this year interviewed the Mar-a-Lago member, Anthony Pratt, who runs U.S.-based Pratt Industries, one of the world's largest packaging companies.

In those interviews, Pratt described how -- looking to make conversation with Trump during a meeting at Mar-a-Lago in April 2021 -- he brought up the American submarine fleet, which the two had discussed before, the sources told ABC News.

According to Pratt's account, as described by the sources, Pratt told Trump he believed Australia should start buying its submarines from the United States, to which an excited Trump -- "leaning" toward Pratt as if to be discreet -- then told Pratt two pieces of information about U.S. submarines: the supposed exact number of nuclear warheads they routinely carry, and exactly how close they supposedly can get to a Russian submarine without being detected.
