It's not contradictory.  Right now 4% of our CO hospital beds are occupied by Covid patients.  The Governor is acknowledging that the infection rate is on the increase and implying that it has some ways to go before it peaks, but he is also acknowledging that things have to get a lot worse before there is a hospital bed, ICU bed, or ventilator shortage.

I'm with him in this instance.  I think it is great for the economy to have full un-masked business operation.  It is great for our morale and great for our mental health.  If it looks like the hospital room supply is going to be jeopardized, then I'll support measured restrictions.  But not before then.

Incidentally Rod, here is the current make up of cases by age group in Colorado.  I know you have some passing familiarity with our state.  Let me assure you that those 20-29 year old young adults leading our delta resurgence are not Republicans and sure as heck did not vote for Trump and don't get their news from Fox.

Maybe the situation in Florida is different.  Maybe the author of the Hill article that started this all is cherry-picking data to make Republicans look bad.

2014 was forever ago.  Colorado is no longer a purple state.  We are blue.  I suppose that could swing back, but Trump was never popular here and the Ds control all state wide and federal offices, except for a minority of state and federal house seats that cover historically conservative regions like Colorado Springs and the western slope.

Speaking of the New York Times, more and more allegations are appearing that they intentionally stonewalled any 2020-era journalistic research into the potential laboratory origins of the virus.  Don't know if the NYT editors stonewalled their journalists or not - just like we don't know definitively where the virus came from.  But it will be interesting to see how this story develops.  https://spectatorworld.com/topic/new-york-times-quashed-covid-origins-inquiry/

I will admit that I would not be surprised at all if the Times behaved as described in the attached article, given the politics at the time - lab origins would have given credibility to one of Trump's biggest campaign issues: "The China Virus."  Even tangentially helping Trump in his reelection bid is something I think, sadly, that the NYT editorial board would sell their souls to Satan to avoid.  Also the financial angle is interesting.

The other day I accused Richard of repeating a conspiracy theory without any caveats or critical analysis.  Here, I suppose I could be accused of the same.  In my defense, I think it is well demonstrated that the NYT and other outlets actively belittled the lab leak theory in the summer of 2020 to harm Trump and mock Republicans.  The only question is whether they turn out to be right or wrong.  I expect that we'll get some actual virus origins proof eventually.  Might be a while.

The reticence to take the vaccine is coming from all sides of the aisle.

Recently a Health care clinic in Texas fired well over 100 of their healthcare workers, nurses, doctors, etc... who decided they don't trust the vaccine.

Then of course we have the Biden Administration who are letting anyone into the country at the border, and thousands of them have tested Covid Positive and they are funneled through the country on planes and buses.

It occurs everywhere, so your fraudulent characterization that it is only Republicans who are causing issues is complete nonsense.
Hi Richard:

I agree that Rod wayyyy overstates anti-vaccination sentiment as an entirely Republican thing.  He can't help himself.  That said, Republicans are being vaccinated at lower rates than Democrats, which I think is unfortunate and should be the target of non-judgmental, matter of fact advertising.

If anyone cares, there is a wealth of information at the links about who is actually refusing the vaccine in both "never" and "wait and see" categories.

Rare consensus

Posted By James Brown

I don't believe that I've seen this sort of consensus across the spectrum of mainstream media in a very long time.  At least not in a political matter.  I wonder if Cuomo can survive?  I wonder if this takes down his toady CNN brother.  I would guess that Gov. Cuomo quits today, but who knows.

Al Franken must be kicking himself in the head.

And: " Partisanship also plays a major role with more than half (58%) of the “definitely not” group identifying as Republican or Republican-leaning. So - Rs in unvaccinated homes = 39%  Ds in unvaccinated homes = 33%  The data you quoted does not look so bad when you present it this way.

My point is that the overall tone of your posts, as I have read them and filtered them through my biases, is that you blame Rs for vaccination failure far more than is justified.  I might be treating your posts unfairly.

We agree 100% on the underlying point.  Everyone should get vaccinated (absent a compelling underlying health or religious reason, in my opinion).  The sooner the better.  The conspiracy theories driving some of the anti-vax sentiment are abhorrent.  The data I linked to shows that a lot of folks are simply cautious about what they stick in their bodies.  Apparently full FDA approval, and some good non-judgmental advertising would help a lot.

I do note the darling conservative judge of Faux news, Andrew Napolitano, formerly a top legal analyst at the network, "sexually harassed numerous young male employees during his tenure at Fox News," according a lawsuit filed by Fox Business production assistant John Fawcett. So, he is out of Faux news and joins the list of several others at the network who are out for the same reason of sexual harassment.

You may not like "his toady brother" but he's not in the same boat as the rest...
Yes, of course, but Cuomo is under the spotlight today.  Do you think he'll survive?
