Andrew....having terrible time w/"Raunchy"

Posted By Andrew Riehl

whenever I used a ronchi screen for testing, I would insert an eypiece directly into the focuser (no diagonal) then center a bright star in the field of view. Then I'd remove the eyepiece and hold the screen directly up to the open rear of the focuser. Never had a problem seeing lines that way...

Gun control survey...

Posted By Andrew Riehl

heck; that kind of thing went on 7 years ago when I was in High School. Granted I went to a comparitively smaller, more rural school than most did at the time, but anyway...
A few of us used to go hunting after school. One day one of the local cops was patrolling the parking lot looking for kids smoking on school property, stuff like that. He noticed the shotgun case in my one partner's open trunk. He asked him, " what's in the case?" My pal said "a shotgun--I'm going hunting right after school" The officer paused a second or two and said "can I see your hunting license then?" My buddy showed it to him and the officer said 'ok, good luck'. Do that today, and you'll be locked up for 10-20 years.

Andrew et.al., two ranchi shots.... :-(

Hi larry...to me it looks either undercorrected or has a turned edge-- you should probably be a little closer to focus so as to have fewer lines in the image...I found a good diagram of what to look for on APM's site...

C8 to LXD-55 mount

Posted By Andrew Riehl

should be no problem to find one; just look for the cg-5 dovetail bar used on the 8" g8 scopes (mounted to a cg-5 gem). My guess is you can find one used in no time flat. I'm 99.9% sure the lxd-55 head is identical to a cg-5/GP (dovetailwise at least)

Need a good mount for AP 130 f8.35 HELP

Posted By Andrew Riehl

obviously the NJP would be better, but would cost a lot more. Personally I believe an em-200 would be more than adequate. I ccd with my 130 f/8 on an old g-11 and am nothing but happy with the setup; the em200 would be even smoother, although perhaps not as rigid(?).

Do we have substance yet?.

well larry, an optical science guy I'm not. Perhaps you should zip an email off to Markus Ludes and ask him. I just don't want to give you wrong advice bud. Best of luck...

Autoguiding Help

Posted By Andrew Riehl

What exactly is the problem you're having? couple of questions:
1. Are you using a relay box?
2. what are your minimum and maximum move settings?
3. are you able to get a good autoguider calibration?
4. If you give a 'move' command to the camera, does the scope respond?
5. Are you set to "camera relays"?
6. What other kind of info are you looking for on ccd0ps? I think I'm one of the few people left that uses it darn near exclusively for acquisition.

You can always tell a house built by a contractor for his family, friends, etc. The extra insulation weighs as much as the wood does...

How do you lock the primary mirror on a C 9.25

Posted By Andrew Riehl

Installing mirror lock knobs involves disassembling the whole scope. an example (on a c-11, but in practice would be the same on a 9.25) can be found at:
http://personalpages.bellsouth.net/r/r/rritter2/Celestron_C11_Mods/#Section_4

Is a locking primary a must for ccd imaging? No matter what Meade says, the answer is no. Granted it's always wise to take certain precautions (i.e. guiding off-axis(not with a guide scope), trying not to image across the meridian, etc.); but is a mirror lock necessary? It never was for me....
