Wow, he gets it! Liberals take heed..!

Posted By Thomas Dey

Hi Mark, That's a good You Tube Video! I stick to the astro stuff. Not because I don't have political thoughts and interests, but because of the site charter. But even More to the point, because I'm tired of trying to carry on even a Hint of reasonably civil political discourse with my liberal friends and associates. For some inexplicable reason(s)... their walking-in stance immediately becomes, "Sooo, a-hole, do you Hate [George Bush, Donald Trump, white men, religious fools, Wall Street, the military...] as much as I do?! Like, what the hell am I supposed to say? I then get into trying to figure out how and why these otherwise nice, considerate, empathic... friends have become Soooo Primal Ballistic Brobdingnagian RoadRunner Whirling Dervish enraged. My placeholder conclusion is that they are not used to losing (even a simple presidential election or a participation trophy) and never grew out of tantrum mode. And astute politicians/press/academics/moguls/entertainers are perfectly happy to take that unweaned suckling lemming energy and steer it to their own career ends. And lemmings, much like alcoholics, will never self-identify. This time... it didn't work! PS I only comment this time because you may have posted this in Off Topic by mistake? I have no idea what is going on in the Amart Political Section… only that there is more activity there than all else combined! At this point, I bow out of political discourse… until, if ever, the libs calm down and welcome free speech. Tom

That's really nice! I also like your processing, slightly sharpened but not overdone. Tom

Valentine's Day Banned...

Posted By Thomas Dey

What are they suggesting, a Valentine's Day Massacre?! Religion, taken to voyeuristic extreme, has caused more harm than any other sociological construct. And this seems to carry over to many/most religions... the usual suspects plus others like militant atheism, environmentalism, politicism, diversitism, etc. And, not coincidentally, the extreme elements in each seem fixated on... SEX! AKA voyeurism = preoccupation over sex by people who think it's naughty but enticing. Appropriately, the 1960 movie "Inherit the Wind" was on the movie channel last night. Cool... the red spot is finally looking like it is "supposed to!" Has been quite muted for a couple of decades. Tom

Occultation of Aldebaran by the Moon

Hi, Enrico, Nice! I logged observations up there in "After Dark." I saw it wink out; a friend got right on the graze line and saw it wink off and on Nine Times (= 17 events)! Tom Dey

Pixel size and resolution.

Posted By Thomas Dey

Here's the link to Lunt's recommended sizing for your (and other) Solar Scopes: https://luntsolarsystems.com/product/dmk-41-monochrome-camera/ Note that they are recommending the DMK41. I have done lots of imagery with Lunt's 60 and 80mm Solar Scopes. Full-disc looks great, but 1.8x barlow does show more detail. So I always image full disc and then go barlow for details in features. In PRACTICE, I find a cam like the DMK41 to be satisfying. Tom

Rini 25mm Reticle

There are lots of easy ways to do that in the house, just the eyepiece, don't even need a scope. I will describe one or two of those, if you like. let me know. Tom Dey

TRUSS POLE CLAMPS QUESTION

Posted By Thomas Dey

Additional Observation regarding buying telescope parts or making your own: It's a lot like that old-school consul about mirror-making. You can BUY a nice one, if you are willing to wait a long time and pay a lot (for a Really GOOD One)... OR you can make your own, just as good or better... but PAINFULLY difficult. I've been there/done that of uncountable projects over many decades. Neither approach is ~right~ They are just different. This Hobby Obsession can be an ambivalent pleasure / pain in the arse! Imagine this absurd hypothetical: You want a 21mm Ethos Eyepiece, but decide to make your own, to save money. Tom, questioning my insanity Tom
