Hi Rich:

I'm pretty sure that Kool-Aid, Rod, James, Brian and nothing else in your post explains why Covid deaths had a huge spike in FL and TX during the summer of '21, while there was a lesser spike in CA and NY.   If you have an explanation different than mine for the summer Covid spike, and the differences between states, feel free to post it, or not - your call.

Just to be complete, I am aware that the Black population has also not fully embraced the vaccine and the Black population is certainly not swayed by R messaging.  Florida has a lot of Blacks. 

Social media information/disinformation is a huge factor in affecting any particular demographic's views on the vaccine.  As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I think that our bubbles are to blame.  But where did the information/disinformation causing lower Republican vaccine acceptance rates originate?  I think R messaging had a lot to do with that aspect of the Florida summer spike.

You probably meant 'in this context...'  i.e. the specific topic of Covid 19 vaccine disinformation.  I gather from the chatter here that the Veritas piece alleges there is scads of evidence proving these vaccines are more dangerous than the disease, and further that this compelling evidence is being suppressed by a left wing conspiracy.  No argument from me that this particular conspiracy theory is BS. 

But in a larger context*, I would reply, "of course" there is liberal media suppression.  The liberal side of the media gave Cuomo a pass when he flubbed the initial pandemic response and a lot of people in the old folks home died.  As Rich notes, early consideration of the lab leak theory was suppressed.  Broader still, any contrarian interpretation of global warming data by legit climatologists is suppressed by the left media.  The whole Russian collusion narrative was a product of media disinformation and suppression.  Etc. Etc.

Well sort of, but not really.  You didn't call him out, you called out the liberal media. 

Well I did the best I could.  I didn't call James an idiot or state that he only has two brain cells - because I think James is significantly more intelligent than the average human.  I did expand on the scope of his intended post, but I pointed that out and all but apologized.  I didn't mention Kool-Aid or call him a statist, a leftist, a commie or anything like that.  I didn't use any of these catch phrases:

Actually Richard, considering the credibility of the source is kind of important when an adult is examining contentious issues.  In this instance the source is Russell Brand, who at the bottom of the page lists himself as follows, "Russell Edward Brand is an English comedian, actor, radio host, writer, and activist."  So, he is about as credible as Trevor Noah or Jon Stewart.  How would you approach a similar article by Trevor Noah??

Brand does look like Jason Mamoa, which is kind of cool, if you are into that sort of thing...

I think you are missing the point.  The words "by either side" and "systematically" are important parts of James' comment.  He acknowledged that there is bias and suppression on either side.  He denies that it is a systemic, concerted effort.  He denies a conspiracy among broad swaths of the media to coordinate any suppression.

In this instance I might disagree and agree with James, not really sure where he comes down on some of the following.  I too doubt that there is coordinated, mandated Pravda-type control over the media coming from some shadowy lefty or righty masterminds.  On the other hand, I think that the pace of the news cycle, the prevalence/importance of Twitter and other instant-output venues, and the like causes left leaning journalists and their right-wing brethren to parrot each other far too often.  As someone (TR maybe?) once said, a lie travels halfway around the world before the truth puts its shoes on....  At the end of the day, it sure looks like a coordinated effort when enough journalists parrot each other.

There are legions of examples, but the many dozens of "the walls are closing in" articles printed on the left in the month before the Mueller report was released is an example I thought was compelling at the time.

Covid-19 news is being “censored” to create “one official narrative,” the Holding the Line journalists said. One of the group’s members, Tony Gosling, a former BBC radio journalist, told Press Gazette:

“Our main concern is that there’s a mighty lobby behind many of these Covid measures, including treatment, lack of treatment, and vaccines, obviously, but there isn’t much of a lobby in the other direction. And I think most of us feel that our employers of various sorts have not been representing both sides.”



Does that clear up your obvious confusion about the source?  I guess you didn't read the article though.  Not surprising.  

Good point - Brand is recounting what others said.  That does not mean he did not spin it to his own advantage though.  Do you remember Rod's post about ACB from yesterday?  In that case, we had an L activist recounting (incorrectly IMO) what the Supreme Court said.  Here, it would take a lot of time to chase down the credibility of the underlying Journalists Against Covid Censorship group.  It would be a worthwhile effort though, if you are going to quote them.  Also, it is always interesting to see if they (JACC) said what Brand says they did.  Sometimes the results are very surprising.
