You and Rich are both assuming that the 4800 "firearms, type not stated" are not rifles.  I suspect that is a safe assumption, but we really don't know.

I thought your cape was wilted before, now its getting brown and crusty like old lettuce!    tongue
That was not a defense of Rod, it was just me pointing out a germane fact.  My defense of Rod comes next.

After re-reading from the top, I see that Rod was talking about all guns.  I believe him when he says that.  You switched the conversation to rifles specifically, as the ole' switcheroo is a key part of your style, and Rod missed it.  That was unfortunate, but not the big deal you are making it out to be.

This is F'ing hilarious.  You are such a tool.  Talk about dishonest misquotes!  Did you not even read my parenthetical?  I've reproduced it for you (and posterity) below.  You are the single most dishonest debater I have ever seen.  And to think you switched Rod's guns to rifles and think you scored such a huge win.  What a liar.

This is a key aspect of the whole thread, which I too missed the first time around.  Jim

Hi Rod:

I think you are missing a point here.  The point is that handguns, not rifles kill so many people.  Yet the gun law crowd wants to ban a specific rifle style.  There is a logical disconnect that is important.  Since rifles are used so infrequently in crimes, why ban them?

Here are some possible replies I've seen to that question:

1.  Even though rifles are infrequently used in murders, they are often used in mass shootings like Las Vegas.

2.  Rifles like the AR-15 and similar platforms are not used for defense or hunting, which are the two reasons behind Heller.  (This one is BS since people do hunt with so-called "assault weapons" and tons of people use them for home defense.)  Even so, I have seen this bad reason thrown into the conversation.

Personally, I am pretty sure that the gun law crowd goes after the "assault weapon" style of rifle because of the way they look, not for any legally compelling reason.  They would go after all guns, but the 2nd Amendment as interpreted in Heller prohibits it.

Jim

Can anyone recall a previous reply from Rich that so clearly demonstrates he is either:

1.  Entirely illiterate, or
2.  The most dishonest fool to ever walk the planet?

I can't stop laughing, given the context of Rich acting like Rod can't read because Rich slipped the "rifle" swithcheroo past him.  But seriously, my guess, since I'm a generous guy, is (3.) Rich simply stopped reading after the first clause in his glee to school me.  But where is his "oops, I didn't read the rest of your post" apology.  Nothing.  Crickets.  That sort of admission is not in Rich's playbook.

I see that Rich copped to #3, while I was writing this.  Good job Rich!  I knew you had it in you.  Now walk back the totalitarian nonsense and I'll go to sleep thinking we made real progress today!

I made a posting about knives vs. Rifles.

Yes you did, but we've beaten that horse to death.

Anything else?  You bet.  I am on pins and needles waiting to read your logical and compelling defense of this gem:
