Great! Yes indeed those background galaxies. And recalling the early days, small vis scope and how hard galaxies were to find... thinking that were therefore rare. Now realize, point Anywhere and galaxies are certainly in the field. It's a populous Universe! Tom

Nice! 4647 sure looks impressive, and, as always... the ~little~ sprinkling of background galaxies. Tom

Aw Man.

Here, in Springwater, NY, it is usually cloudy. Nevertheless, when I was young and dedicated... I would observe EVERY clear night. Worse than getting clouded out is being too lazy to observe on a nice, free, ideal night. Tom

Nice, I'll be watching it from Casper, Wyoming. Will claim to have seen the New Moon a microsecond old. ??? Tom

Pet peeve re the forums

I've actually WATCHED new posts evaporate. I believe it is when the author deletes it. May still be flagged, but has been removed. So, I imagine some falling-down-drunk astronomer blathering... and then quickly deleting it. I'm going to try that right after this one [here Tom cracks the seal on a pint of Jack Daniels] Mmmm...ok I'll enter this and then one saying "Test", which one I will immediately delete... urp ... What binos will you be using for the eclipse?

Posted By Thomas Dey

Hi, Rob et al! I'm going to Casper, right on the totality center-line at a friend's house. He will have all sorts of visual and recording equip set up. I'm traveling light, bringing Vixen 2.1x and Zeiss 8x20 binos for Totality Only. Also my ~shadow band detector~ and H-alpha & Oxygen Night Visions to (maybe) peek at the corona narrowband. BUT beyond all else... I am going to WATCH Totality Naked Eye. Note to self and all: You only have 2+ minutes... Don't forget to WATCH! Tom

What have you started making today?

Nice! I think I used to have that Exact Same vintage thread-cutting lathe? The gear-shift is interesting. I eventually gave it to a friend who is a better machinist. The guy down the road has a full shop... it was interesting getting the Bridgeport into his basement! We made six 2-inch lens cells by modifying Edmund's 2-in extenders, only needed four. Using them now and they work fine! Tom

Introducing Mr. Johnnycashi

Nice! I never even noticed this ~Insects~ category. I collected insects for Dept. of Agr. way back in 1970 in Panama. Some were HUGE! Also brought back a sizeable personal collection. Tom

Nice! We did a lot from Bar Nunn, a bit north of Casper. I has a Shadow Band Detector set up, which worked fine... and probably detected nothing. Tom

Hi, Rolando. Those are, of course, SPECTACULAR! We were at my friend's house in Bar Nunn, just north of you. We got decent shots and maybe a ~hint~ of shadow bands video. From there, a somewhat pesky cirrus was right there and scattered a lot, but the view was still wonderful. I officially christened my Zeiss 20x60 IS on the eclipse. Also saw a bunch of NASA guys and Greg, from FLI. Tom
