LX200 parts

Posted By Robert Smerdon

Hi, can someone tell me if meade will sell odd parts. the story is, I sold my LX200 and UPS broke the tripod. waiting to see if they will pay for it or not. but in case they don't I need to know if parts are avalible. I need the tripod "top plate" if thats what it is called. one of the lugs that the legs bolt to is broken so one leg is only held on with one bolt now. So I need the top plate. what do you think?

Zap a dap of Dew?

I'm no expert, but I did read somewhere that gave the reason and it sounded good to me. I am paraphasing! it basiclly said that when objectives are cooled to the outside air temp they will often drop below that temp. so in order to really keep the temp stable you would have to apply heat. so you are really heating up to the outside temp, because the scope tube, correcter will not stay at the outside temp very long once it is cooled off.

Prices on AstroMart

Posted By Robert Smerdon

The can of worms is open now. I had asked the same question awhile back in the off topic section and the flames were bad that bad. actually the ratio of agree and disagree was pretty one sided, about 4:1 in agreement. all lot of good points were made on both sides. but it still comes down to each person. I agree with you! others won't.
all that can be done is, when you see an ad and you don't agree with the price just laugh it off and move on! Myself, well I just say, "what are they smoking"?? LOL.

collimation again?????????

Posted By Robert Smerdon

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will have to keep working on it. I guess I should have said what acc's I am using with the scope. I have the big 2" visual back from AP and I'm using an Antares diagonal. I use a 2" EP to collimate so I don't have any play in it from a 1 1/4 adapter. I guess my main question would be, why is this happening now when it didn't happen before??????????

Creative persons needed.....

I'm just a beginner in all this, I came across a site awhile back about mercury parabola's. the draw back we all know is the fact that they must always point up.
I had an idea and I don't know if its do-able or not.
It will add higher cost to a mercury mirror and might have to be a smaller mirror maybe.
Anyway my idea was to make the parabola out of some sort metal. pour in the mercury and start the spin up and then some how electronicly magnetize the whole thing to allow it to till without the mercury running all over the place.
I imagine it would take a good amount of power to magnetize a 1 meter area depening on the thickness of the parabola. but seeing that the mercury is very thin when it spins out, maybe not. I don't know, its just the first idea I had when I read about the mercury mirrors

Classical Heavy Metal

Posted By Robert Smerdon

Jag Panzer is a USA band. alot of bands use classical music, another band "Accept" was a master of mixing classical and modern music. the lead guitarist Wolff Hoffman
was well trained in classical.
I don't know if Black Sabbath was influenced by classical or not. there might be a hint of it in there but I'm not sure.
What can I say, I'm a metalhead. I don't care for the standard 3:00 minute pop song that doesn't tell a story.
I would much rather listen to a 13:00 minute Iron Maiden song that uses music and words to take you on an adventure.
other bands I'm in to are;
Ozzie, every guitar player he had was classically trained
Iron Maiden
Accept
Forbidden
King diamond
(older) Metallic
Kings X
and many more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And for you viewing pleasure, my bass. Hamer B12S 12 string bass.

I use a gateway laptop 333hz,64mb ram with no problems. my hard drive is small, only 4 gigs. after loading all my programs I only have about 2 gigs left. I would say get a bigger drive then what I have. I'm looking to upgrade my drive to at least a 15 gig and laptop drives aren't cheap.

ETX 90 Baffle problem

Posted By Robert Smerdon

Is that a new scope or used?
the baffles are glued on. I had the same problem with my 125
the main problem was I left it in the car one day for about 2 hours in summer time. the glue will soften in heat and it lets the baffle side around. you can try to reset it, but its easier to send it to meade. I tryed it and could never get it to line up right!!!!!!!!

Alan I don't think dismal is the right word if your in the upstate of SC.
Its been $#%&^*&^% if you get my meaning. you might have had better
viewing down there in the flat land of SC but right off the foothills.
It seems like its been cloudy for a solid year. Is there a clearing dance that I can do? LOL
