Feathertouch focuser for TV APO

Posted By Stu Travelbee

David,
"Buttery Smooth" does not mean it will move in 'very' small increments like the Starlight Feathertough which has a 10:1 reduction and a fine knob inside the course knob. Being able to move the focuser only a few thousandths is more important to me than a single speed "buttery smooth" action. JMHO.

Yes, they are 58mm... my mistake. I'm very sorry. I did post the 52mm link which was wrong.

TMB130LW Super Light Cup First Cloudy Light

"In my opinion, now that we're in the 21st century ;-), I think any APO in this price range ought to come with dual-speed focuser."

Ron,
I couldn't agree with you more. I think Tele Vue is missing the boat not offering a dual speed focuser on either the NP101 or NP127. What a fine option for these unique Petzval scopes.

telescopes and Quality.

"The mirror I just bought from Carl Zambuto, a 10" f/6 cost $1,000 and this is just a mirror."

Floyd,
For years it was my understanding that Zambuto mirrors were only sold to four telescope manufacturers, Mag 1 Instruments, Starmaster, Teleport, and Starsplitter. Is Carl now selling to ATMs or the public?

UPS Store prices?

Posted By Stu Travelbee

I learned that many of these UPS stores are similar to a franchise and the owner can set the prices accordingly. The biggest plus to these stores is that you can get packing and shipping in one stop. If I do my own packing I go to the local UPS terminal desk and get the better price.

Re: TUNDRA!

"Our Vet will see Tundra only when no other canines are scheduled for appointments at his clinic." Yes, they would die laughing! Anyone can have a "wolf" just like "Tundra" if you have $330 and order it. The positive side is it never eats, bites, or does anything “else” as wolf would do! If you care to order one they can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/4a5ox Does this look familiar?

Tak Teegul or DiscMount DC6 for TEC140

Posted By Stu Travelbee

Eddie,
I had the Universal Astronomics UniStar and like it very much, but wanted a cradle type mount. I purchased an 8" Helix Hercules cradle mount and like it too. The Hercules is about the same as the UniStar when it comes to being solid. Early this morning I was tracking Jupiter at 326x without any issues. So Many choices....

Jay,

You are so right! Ben was my observing buddy for many years, but has passed on to a better place. He was notorious for staying up for "all nighters"!

100 vs 140mm

Posted By Stu Travelbee

Mike,
I did a comparison between my TEC140 and NP101 here in the city. Both Jupiter and Saturn images were extremely sharp in both scopes with the TEC140 being slightly brighter, but the back ground too. With twice the aperture the TEC140 gave a sightly better view. As far as a "grab and go", I would take the NP101.
