Stupid Scope Trick

Posted By Debbie Whitaker

Charlie,

Next time go down the Grand Canyon on a mule. The mules will carry your scope and tripod easily. That way you don't wear yourself out and you energy left over for observing. The mules do all the work and you could also use your binoculars to see the canyon while riding.

Ron,

Do you have the RA and DEC coordinates for this object? I'd like to give it a try.

Herschell Marathon for large GOTO scopes.

I've done the Herschel 400. My advice to anyone is to smell the roses and enjoy the journey. I tried not to observe over 50 objects a night. Otherwise, I feel rushed and my notes are not as good. I'm doing the Arp 100 right now and I try to observe only 25 galaxies a night so I can study each galaxy in detail.

Caldwell Objects? Do you do them?

Posted By Debbie Whitaker

I went for the Herschel 400 list also. I'm not officially doing the Caldwell list but some are interesting to view. I've done about 80 objects on this list, most were on other lists. I especially like the DeepMap 600 List. It is sorted by constellation. See http://pages.sbcglobal.net/raycash/dmcon.htm

How do you shoot a whole roll?

Posted By Debbie Whitaker

I shot 25 exposures back in July and used the remaining shots on my dog. But the daylight shots didn't come out because I forgot to take the camera off the "B" setting. Something I need to watch out next time. By the way, how long should the film be in camera if I want to wait until next time?
