Does anyone still make a reasonably priced 5" ED?

Posted By Gary Greenwald

I remember Meade and Orion offering them a while back.

Thanks

SkyScout vs. MySky

Posted By Gary Greenwald

I would like to buy my nephew and niece one of these for the holidays.

Any advice from users would be appreciated.

I Believe there were significant quality issues with the Meade (not a surprise), but I believe it is a much better design than the Celestron - and I think that Celestron may be redesigning the SkyScout and that is why they are down to $199.

Thanks

Lxd 650 questions

Posted By Gary Greenwald

I recently purchased a used A LXD 650 WITH THE 102mm refractor.

I don't have experience with this type of mount, so please excuse the dumb questions.

Does the Dec motor connect to the RA plug (it shows it connected in the manual, and this is the only way the computer boots up, but this makes no sense to me).

Should the slewing noise sound like gears meshing ?
Should the drive have a less noisy, but still obvious gear meshing noise ?
It uses AC power - could someone recommend a portable battery pack ?

Thanks for any advice

Does Anacortes carry Celestron scopes?

Posted By Gary Greenwald

I cannot find Celestron scopes here - am I that blind?

If they are not sold at Anacortes, why would they limit themselves to Meade?

Sorry if this has been answered before.

thanks

Celestron CPC weight

Posted By Gary Greenwald

I am looking at a CPC 11 but the 60 plus pounds for the heaviest component is much heavier than I want to lift. I saw the newer mount (CGE) offered used an OTA of 20 lbs or so.

Is this mount as good as the one with CPC? Is it as sturdy? Is it worth the cash?

I know the mount weight is heavy, but it is easier to carry a mount than a tube. (I think)

thanks

Prices on AstroMart

Posted By Gary Greenwald

You are correct in your statement - some people are just nuts and unrealistic in valuing their equipment.

On ebay, some morons are trying to get more than list price for the Bose radio/cd - I emailed one just to be sure the item was the one I thought it was - he never emailed me back. But remember - some buyers are morons too - and will pay much more than something's worth just because - they are a moron !

Classified Ad Etiquette

Posted By Gary Greenwald

It might make sense to say "Firm" when listing item if they will only take the asking price - or "OBO" if willing to negotiate. This way there is no misunderstanding. Most people expect to negotiate at least a little - but not if "Firm" is used and the price is right.

3" unitron on "dennis the menace"

Posted By Gary Greenwald

In the movie Body Double there is a 3.5 Questar on a mount looking out of a high rise.

Arthur Clarke on his TV program shows him viewing thru what looks like a C11 or C14.

I keep seeing great images from Celestron 9.25's..

Posted By Gary Greenwald

Why is this scope so good compared to all of Meade's SCT's and Celeston's other scopes? They sure charge a premium for it.
