Trying to identify an .096 ep. On top of EP I see HI 2.5mm and thats all I can find. Anyone with info ? Its very well made and appears to be an ortho of some type. Not very big but somewhat heavy for its size. Very small eye relief. Thanks to all.

Can I do it ?

I want to make a primary mirror. A six incher "maybe an eight incher at f/8" at f/10 with a fantastic figure. I have the time and the ability to learn. What are the minimum tools I will need to accomplish this project ? Will mirror grinding kits have what I need to make it a near perfect mirror or would I need something better ? I have choosen Pyrex with the focal point already set "easier for me". I really want to try this as I'm tired of the mirrors that poop out at 200X. I cannot afford a good one from all those you know who's. What are my chances from 1-10 with 10 being the best chance ?

I live in the pollution capital of the United States, otherwise known as Fresno, CA. I have noticed a strange type of condition that maybe someone can explain. In early evening a few minutes before sunset the planets are just as crisp and clear as ever. This condition only lasts for a few minutes until the sun has set and a little beyond. I can then watch "in the eyepiece" and begin to see a very fast moving air current that continues the remainder of the night. It looks like a jet stream and blurs the planets and destroys resolution. Upon checking, the jetstream is nowhere near my location "its over 1000 miles away". Solar views during the day are near perfect. My visual seeing is < mag 4 at anytime due to light and smog. I live 4 miles west of the the metropolis in a huge, hot "over 100 degrees" valley. What do you think this fast moving air may be ? And my surface air is dead calm !!

What could it be ?

I just recieved an older DS-90 Refractor. The lens cell seemed to be a little large for the tube. There should be two lens but there are three. It gives very good "no color and darn near perfect" views as is but I cannot collimate it. And what is the third lens for ? When I attempt to collimate it with a cheshire I see three donuts all apart from one another. With some very careful work I have them very close to being in the center. Because the cell is a bit to big, its sloppy. Also that 100% plastic focuser has to go, anyone know what will fit it or fix it ?

Siliconed Mirror

I have an 8 inch f/10 mirror that is captive in its cell with silicon. The mirror has what appears to be astigmatism but only sometimes like, when its warm but not when its cold. Do you think the silicon adhesive would cause this ? The mirror is stuck onto the entire surface of the cell and has no gap to support cutting it off. So there are two questions here. Could the silicon grip the mirror to tightly "deform ing its figure" and how can I remove it without damaging the mirror ? BTW, I did not do this to the mirror, I bought it this way from another party.

Last night and the night before I brought out my cheap Meade 90mm refractor. Was I surprised !! It is apparent that Mars is big enough now to observe even with small instruments. I got that little scope up to 310X, really and it was still remarkable.

The Moon, Whats its name ?

We call the moon, moon. All the other moons have real names like Phobos and Titan. What is the name of the moon other than moon. Its not luna, thats spanish for moon. My wife wants to know :-)
