Moonlite vs JMI

Posted By James Robinson

I note from past posts that folks generally like the moonlite crayford focusers. Any opinions on the moonlite CR-1 vs a JMI NGX-3? Is one a clear winner over the other?
Thanks
Jim

A pair have taken up residence nearby. They like to feed in my gravel driveway.

Common Gackle

Another gackle. These look great in the eyepiece, the irridence and color are brilliant. I have not been able to capture it very well in a photo.

Tree swallows

Hesitate to post these after viewing the stunning photos of Tyler, but here are some tree swallows nesting at one of the local audobon refugees.

Urban night heron

Posted By James Robinson

Part of my daily commute takes me along the Storrow Drive bike path in Boston. Last week a large group of night herons moved in and set up right by the community sailing club. Took this with a handheld Coolpix at full zoom. I'd like to get some better shots, but kind of hard to take all the equipment on a bike to work.

ST80 objective ?

Posted By James Robinson

Surplus optics has a coated, airspaced 80mm f/5 achromat for $30 (item L2196). The cell looks a lot like the objective from an ST80 to me, but I no longer have my ST80 to compare. If it is thats quite a bargain. I might order one to make a giant finderscope.

Redwing blackbird

Posted By James Robinson

I was playing around with my new ST80 today to see what could be done with a modest scope. I'm very pleased with it, its very light and at the low powers I use with birding there is no detectable false color.

Taken with ST80, 28mm WO, and Coolpix 950.

Redwing blackbird

Just got back camping at Nickerson State Park on cape cod. Redwings are so cooperative. Here's the first of a few shots.

Osprey

Posted By James Robinson

An Osprey from Nickerson state park. The light was bad (after sunset) and the bird was very far away. I watched these guys circle the pond off and on for several days and did not catch them diving for fish, they must eat sometime!
